Loneliness

I read an informative article on loneliness; linking it to an early death.  Learning more about myself, I've come to realize I have been lonely most of my life.  There is a paradox to this; I've been married for 17 years, have two children and a few friends I can call.  If I have all these things, then why do I still feel so alone?  There is a particular friend I've known for nearly 2 years who has seen through my facade and I feel I can be my true self all the time around them.  We've forged a strong bond together, an emotional attachment like I've never had before.  I began to feel the veil of loneliness lift when we are around each other.  However, they are discussing a move to another city!  Pondering this brings feelings of abandonment, and I find myself being clingy when I get to spend time with them.  I know there are abandonment issues I am going to have to work through, however, the lonely feelings only seem to be compounded by the feelings of abandonment.  I feel most alive and content when we can spend time together, but I hate that I let someone get that close only to see the relationship so short lived.
