Little Things

No one understands how pleasant it is to have small worries.  The most pressing thing on my mind right now is getting my grading caught up before the weekend.  The biggest deal I have to deal with right now is what to do about this giant crush I have on my best friend and coworker.  The most worrying thing on my plate is what I am going to wear to the party on Saturday.  The biggest decision I have to make is whether or not I'm going to the play Friday night.

It is so very pleasant to have this change of pace with my thoughts.  I'm not sitting here shaking over what a student just told me about what goes on with them at home.  I'm not on the verge of tears, reliving one of the many horrible things that have been done to me.  My heart isn't racing over some unseen fear.  I'm not ready to pass out at the thought of some paper tiger.  I'm fretting over a dress.  A simple, stupid dress.

Sometimes when I listen to the kids in my class talk, I envy them.  They are so carefree.  Things don't bother them.  I don't remember a time when I could sit and discuss a video game, or what I was going to wear to a dance, or my thoughts on a sport, before now.  The medicine has made things so much easier for me.  I love focusing on these little minute details of life.  They're so small, so simple, so easy, so light-weight I feel like my head could float if it were all just air...

These simple little things.  They are the things I wish everyone could worry about, all the time, every day, and the only things people ever had to worry about.  Sadly, the little precious things aren't the only things in life, and there are so many other things to take our minds away from simple pleasures.
