life as i know it.

stopping mid chores to take a break.

how are you doing during our endless rainy season in the south?  it is pouring down hard.....when it lets up i'll go feed steve the cat.  i left kitty treats on the stairs for him next to one of his toys, a giant white rat.  my kitties have the same rat.  random.

yesterday i stopped at a Thursday yard sale...not often they run on that day.  a very nice home, they put their home on the market and it sold one hour later!  how wild is that?  they are rushing to get ready to move, to offload items as they are downsizing.  they are a nice couple w/3 teenagers.  i got a big stack of great movies to give to sam ($1 a piece).  i put them in a large dark brown twig basket.....it looks pretty cool!  i also got some starfish & shells to top off my big glass jar of beach happies.  and finally two pillows for my bed.....they are two shades of beige with lacy flowers sewn on top....match my spread really well.  when i checked out they gave me a great price.  $20 for everything, including the 17 DVD's......can't beat that.  they had some other really nice things, but i was a good girl and let them go.

a very large picture of pretty birds....two old fashioned matching mirrors in a soft shabby chic green......lots of pretty things. the hubby offered all the dvd's to me for $30.  there must have been 5 boxes......after wards i kind of wish i'd gone for it, but no, again i was good.

lots of phone calls to make this afternoon.  the accident paperwork that never quits.  i just got another bill for almost $1000.  frustrates the heck out of me.  i have to call my medicare insurance company, the hospital billing agency and more.  and pray not to cry.  these calls are hard for me, why do i get so frustrated?  i know we have brain fog and such but i used to pride myself on my ability to handle these things well....with a calm and poise that is not as easy to possess now.

i finally got the application for the 55+ community nearby.  the rent is low due to it being a property built with lower income housing tax credits.  this means i need to sell my home.  i am working on setting up an appt with a realtor for next week.  i need to find out the value of my home now, see what must be done......and figure out what i would do if my home sells before the apartment is available.....and conversely if my home doesn't sell and the apartment becomes available.

there is a big organization to help with section 8 housing, that is not helpful for my situation.  i need the low income housing tax credit properties.  i thought there would be a definitive group, but so far no.  i thought there would be people available to help a disabled senior figure all this out, but again not that i've found so far.  i spoke to a woman in charge of my region for the state who helps develop properties for people with living challenges, but what she does still doesn't sort out people like me.  she advised that i call the section 8 folks, but they don't know and shortly after we started speaking the call abruptly ended.  must be on a 5 minute timer or something.  i held to speak to a person for 12 minutes.  frustration city.......i'm going to try the housing authorities for my local counties.  see if that helps.

there is a list on GeorgiaHousingSearch.org but a lot of the properties listed aren't lowered rent within the tax credit housing guidelines so it's confusing to me, but i'm trying.  this will be a big undertaking.  selling off things here, getting paperwork done.......home repairs.  it boggles the mind.  currently i feel like i can, but the reality is that the next flare is going to knock the almighty stuffing outta me and that will put everything on hold.  being real not asking for trouble.

on a happier note.....yesterday i took a back car seat full of throws, towels & stuffed animals to the gwinnett animal shelter.  two sweet teen aged volunteers unloaded everything and thanked me so nicely.  i said they were from Annie & Rio....they let me live here cause i have thumbs!

that felt good......a spirit lifter!  tomorrow is baby shower day.  sara is going & she has the gifts ready to go.  yay!  i need to look up directions, it's going to be at Provino's somewhere past the Mall of Georgia.

after that i'll come by the house and put on red, white and blue to act as museum welcome lady for our town's independence celebration on Saturday.  i need to be there at 4:45 to meet Dan.  he will unlock the doors & tell me anything of importance.  primarily i think we just greet visitors, ask them to sign the guest book and point the way to the bathroom.  the museum is a small historic home with A/C, comfy chairs and cold bottled water, so it will be fine!  a lady named Carol Lynne will come by around 6:15 to relieve me.  please let us have a no rain day tomorrow........pretty please with clear blue skies on top?

time to finish emptying the dishwasher and then fill it back up.......the trash men didn't come until today, they left the lid open, so now i'll have to fight with that big heavy container.  to drain out the rain.......why didn't they just close it?  i'm fighting the urge to call the company and tattle......if it weren't so doggone heavy i wouldn't want to call.....sigh.

i guess i'd better get on with things.  tammie did a great job on the two chairs.  they are so pretty!  (soft satiny white with red vintage fabric cushions) she has the table, but hasn't given me a price just yet.  she's busy getting her shop ready for the big day of tourists on saturday, she is located just behind the main street area.....her shop is adorable, she has many nice things!  hope she gets new customers!  she is a very hard working industrious lady......pray for her business and for her hubby Mike, he is waiting to hear if a job he interviewed for will become his.  Mike is 59......he went through a very rough time with a heart attack and recovery.  He was let go by his longtime friend and boss.  They were friends for 40 years and Mike worked for him for decades.  His pal said he was too afraid to have Mike back on the job, afraid it would kill him.  Mike was crushed, hurt......devastated by all this.  I know it was a very physical job and I know Mike wants a job working with his hands.  He needs work to feel ok with the world......there are still a lot of things he can do, but his age is also a real factor when interviewing.  I feel for this couple.......they are very nice.  Every time I go by Mike asks me to sit on the porch and talk.  It's very southern.....he's used to being busy, in charge......going and doing.  Being the sidekick to his wife's business is ok, but not his happy place.  He wants his own thing......and to support her with her new shop.  I get it.......I don't know what the doctors say about all this......and I don't know them well enough to ask.  Prayer is the way to go.........it feels good to be able to listen so he can vent.....

enough    ......sam is safely landed in ohio visiting erica.....his college chum.  the rain and the washing machine both stopped, suddenly got very quiet in here............how is your world?  love, hugs & prayers, ruthie

Hello, dear. I hope you can get in the 55+ community. It would probably have some good services and the low rent is a plus. Love you loads.

Oh my goodness Ruthie! Selling a home is sooooo much work! If that is the way you go, PLEASE get help with the house to get it into shape. I don't want it to make you sick! And cats are useless with moving chores. Could you take both kitties to the 55+ living facility? I sure hope so! Please take care of yourself!

Hug hug!

Ruthie, I have definitely been out of touch for too long!!! I didn't even know you were considering selling your house and moving to a 55+ community. I am pretty sure if something happened to my husband I would have to do the same thing - being sick and keeping up with a single family home is very difficult. I feel your frustration about the paperwork and lack of support - I can't believe there isn't some type of community liaison to help seniors and/or disabled people with that kind of thing. Praying all the difficulties get resolved. Hugs, ELLE

Oh I'm shocked to hear that you are going to sell the Sparrow Cottage. Still it does all make sense. We have to be realistic about our future and survival. I need to get real about mine. Freaks me out when I think about it. I have no future security. For some unknown reason ,I always imagined you staying in your home. I even had thoughts of rocking up there one day and knocking on your door.
Well I hope it all comes together for you Ruthie, and one of the many positives for you will be making new friends there . Hope it all falls into place and becomes a smooth transition. Love you Ruthie.xoxoxo
