Life Affirmations
So, I havent written an entry in months, life has been hectic. I am still in college and maintaining a 4.0 GPA and have made Presidents list all 6 terms. Yay Me!!
Grandson is still home schooled. We tried live school at the beginning of the year, it lasted 3 days. The school had purchased a remote learning program and insisted he use that rather than the curriculum he used last year. We gave it a shot, it did not engage him and his grades were terrible. I proceeded to attempt to get him moved to last year curriculum, which turned into a 3 week battle in January. I finally got him switched (without going to jail) and his grades have improved exponentially. He certainly proved my point that it was the curriculum and not him that was the issue. Yay Me and Him!!
2 weeks ago, I broke down and rented a place, buying just isn't in the cards at this time, and I had to get both of us away from my ex-husband. He was getting more and more abusive and it was not a good situation. It feels so good being away from the micro-managing narcissist!!!
This place is somewhat small, and needs a lot of attention. It is on 8 acres in the country, we can have our dogs here and put up a fence for them right out the back door. There are 2 ponds here with great fishing, so I dont have to go far to catch dinner, and I get fantastic sunsets.
Grandsons mother keeps popping into the picture. She's been "clean" a year now. Is reasonably certain she is getting custody of her other 2 boys back from the state, although she still has unresolved charges for meth and firearms. Threatened to come and pick up this son anytime she wants (I have court appointed custody), so that could get really interesting. She might be "clean", but her thought processes are still on dope. Of course it can take 3 years to reach some semblance of normalcy. Tried to get legal aid so that I could completely remove her from his life (at his request), but legal aid turned me down. I applied to DCS for child support 6 months ago, and have never heard a word. If I was a mother going after a father it would be so different....
Overall, things are going well. Have to take the good with the bad for balance I suppose.

thoroughly awesome developments, deb. go you! ! ! way to do the do! ! ! thank you for the update.
yup, ya gotta take the good with the bad for the balance. i visualize it as the tears mark the outlines of our lives. the hopes color the shades in between those outlines.
one of the more stubborn guilts i have in my own grandfamily is the sense that the double funeral of both mommy and daddy saved us from quite allot of family court drama and saved my gk's from all the dysfunctional family trauma attached to those court dramas. as it is, the maternal aunt is doing her best to take mama's place in the children's lives, but has a far less credible case than a mother has.
however dim my view of the maternal family, i still believe it is good to have a sense of what we are made of. custody is out of the question in my heart, but i remain grateful SOMEBODY in the mother's family cares enough to keep in touch.
Gs refuses to have anything at all to do with her. No calls, texts or visits. At 14, I allow him the decision. He does have more meltdowns after she tries contact and when he talks to her mom, who tries subtly to push mom on him.
