Day 38 of 365 - Man Break
It was a long weekend in Canada – Victoria Day so I haven’t been on much. Enjoying the beautiful weather! It is finally hot here and by the looks of things might be a great summer. It is amazing how much everything has changed from dull and dreary and cold to hot and blue skies and green everywhere you look. I LOVE summer! I also had a great ME weekend as my kids were away and I pampered myself with a pedicure, shopping, movies and good food. But I still have my eye on the prize and am still working towards my goals.
”This is not a being you can interact with on any level. He is too toxic. It is like going into Chernobyl without a bodysuit on. You are going to be lethally charred.” Quote by SusyP.
I think I am finally getting it. I am the ultimate observer of people now and there is a lot you can tell by their actions and words. And I also know that you can’t get to know a person - any person - by just interacting with them 3 or 4 times. Everyone is on their best behavior when they meet someone new. There is only the rare person who is comfortable enough to show who they really are all the time. This relates to friends as well as lovers. You need to observe people in a number of settings and situations and they will show you who they are.
Now that I know this everything is different. Moving slow is my best option and my best protection. It just seems so simple and obvious now that I fail to see how I couldn’t have known this before. What a lot of time I would have saved myself.
I am just such an honest, open person that I just assumed that everyone was like that. I know better now. These people are NOT your average person. They don’t think like me or act like me, so it was just a let down for me to expect that what I gave they would return. I was naive in thinking that if you are good to people they will be good back. This is not the case.
But I’m not cynical now and trust no one. I used to be because I thought I always had bad luck and attracted the assholes. My trust was shattered so many times I became distrustful and I used to think to myself how can I ever trust anyone again? Now I know I can protect myself. By keeping my ear to the ground, observing, being aware and going slow I will detect any men who get by my radar before they have a chance to impact my life. That’s empowering. That tells me I am in control of whether I will get destroyed again. The better I study, the better position I will be in to make good choices.
Finally something concrete I can do to change my pattern of relationships.
