Learning

Feeling alright today. Yesterday had a hard time, but started to learn from it. I went to Labour ready and they said I needed my social insurance number. I thought I had it, but I don't It was in my bag that was supposedly given to the police. I called them yesterday, but they still say they have no record of it. Hmmmm! Alright.
So I went to Nathan Philips square to get a printout of my number from the government. lady there said I had to go to Bay and College because I said Ontario Canada, instead of Ontario Ontario. Then they send me running back to Nathan Philips Square because that's federal, not provincial. I run like hell because it's 3:40, and they close at 4. I get there sweating like hell, and the guy tells me that I have to go somewhere else all the way up to Finch.
I tried being calm, but when I got out I started swearing my head off. Only did it for awhile though, then I calmed down. I started thinking that everything was alright still, and that everything would fall into place when it's supposed to.
Later when I got back to the shelter, I checked my stuff to make sure my I.D. was really gone. It was. I thought about getting mad about the cops, but I can't. It was my fault in the first place for drinking back then.
So, I later went to a meeting and we read that story about some Dr and his wife Max. It was so cool. Really made me see how I often look outside of myself for changes to my life, and how I try to make others do what I want when I'm drinking. It was about acceptance, and how it's the answer to all our problems.
I read that story many times, but it never seemed as clear as it did last night. Really makes me see how sick I had become when I was married, and what I must have put my wife through, as well as others I came into contact with. I want to read it again.
The big Book is really good, but it takes an alcoholic awhile to understand it, and without the help of the groups, and others I would still be living with that sick way of thinking that inevitably kept me drinking.
I feel very happy about recovery and how it's going for me now. I'm extreamly glad that I had all those years around it, and also the prison time that gave me so much time to not drink. Although I went out to celebrate my freedom, I didn't lose a lot of what I learned from the past, and my going out was extremely short this time.
Thank you so much, Lord. Thank you.
