Lasik
I have a consultation appointment for Lasik eye surgery later this month. Can't get here fast enough.
I had worn contacts since I was 14 until last year. My new job (been here almost 3 years now) has made my eyesight much worse. I now have trouble seeing up close too, so I had to get bifocals. I can't wear the bifocal contacts. Some people just can't get used to them, they cause nausea.
Anyway I've been having to wear glasses every day for almost a year. My eyedoc wouldn't let me wear contacts anymore for just far away because she said it would cause eye strain. I can understand that at work, but at the gym? How would wearing contacts in my personal life be bad? I still have eye strain and headaches. I tried ordering some contacts online but they weren't comfortable; I think my prescription is just too strong.
So I'm stuck with doofy glasses that make me a klutz; I run into stuff all the time because the bifocals make it impossible to see my feet or what my hands are doing, not to mention glasses cut out your peripheral vision anyway. I'm glad I'm not still a meat cutter or I'd be missing some fingers.
I can't wait until the consultation. I hope they have some good news and I can do the surgery soon and get back to a normal life. I think it will be easier to stay more active too.
If it all goes well I think I will celebrate with a new haircut.

I think I will ask about that next eye appointment. I don't think I would be a candidate for it but doesn't hurt to ask. It sure would be nice not to have to wear glasses that's fer sure. Good for you! Let us know how it goes.
My personal favorite physics geek was legally blind without his glasses and got the mid 80's laser surgery. He was hilarious in his approach to working the process and it paid off, big time. The last time we had lunch, not too long ago, he was still seeing 20/20.
Hope it makes as much diff to your life as it did to his. He especially loves scuba diving with no glasses under his goggles. Go Geek! ! !
Good luck. Be careful though. I had a friend who was also to the point of needing bifocals. She did schedule and had laser surgery. Afterward she had a lot of issues and thought they botched her surgery. When she went back, she asked them why it was hard for her to focus and seemed unclear. They said what they did was make one eye the strength to see clear far off... and the other for closeup. They said that in time the two would adjust so things were clearer. It took her awhile to get used to that and she wished they told her that before so she knew what to expect.
Because of this I did not look into it for myself. I hear ya about hating glasses. (and bifocal lenses. Unfortunately, I have dry eyes and can't wear contacs anymore either. So I am stuck ).
I wore glasses and contacts for what seemed like an eternity. 2 years ago i had early cataracts and had them removed, & surgeon placed small lenses in those eyes, one lens for far, one lens for near vision. It was an adjustment, but I was fine.
Yes GO FOR IT, whatever (lazik) needs to be done, DO IT---my vision is 20/20 now. I can't stop raving about it. It changed my life!!!
Update
I had my Lasik consultation yesterday. It went well. They say I am a good candidate and that I only need surgery to correct my near sightedness and astigmatism. The doctor doesn't think I really needed the bifocals, it's just my prescription for far away was so strong it was causing eye strain that will likely go away after the surgery. They said I may still want to wear readers with blue light protection at work, but other than that will never need glasses or contacts again, and the surgery comes with a lifetime warranty. It will cost $3700 but I can make payments.
My appointment is Thursday the 5th and I have a hair appointment the day before. Soon I will be feeling more like myself. I'm excited. My fiance is going to drive me and I want to bring my mom too for emotional support.
Fiance doesn't seem very supportive because he think I should spend money on more important things (like covering his ass?) But I'm going thru with this. It's about time I invested some money in myself. I have been saving up for a year for this. Wish me luck!
My surgery is Thursday. I'm starting to get nervous. I hope everything goes well and I recover quickly.
Surgery is soon! I'm nervous but excited. Fiance didn't end up being able to take me so I have my mom and brother here to drive home. Surgery is in the city so it's an hour and a half from home.
How did your Lasik surgery go? Is it painful... is it quick...? I have worn extended wear contacts most of my adult life. Have been afraid to get Lasik.

Today I can finally stand to use my phone and went back to work today. My eyes are extremely light sensitive and will be for awhile. I have sunglasses and they turned some of the lights off at work, switched my computer to night light, which isn't bright and warm light. I have to use drops alot and I have bruising on one eye.
Other than that I can see better than 20/20. The surgery was very quick but I wish they would've given me some adavan or something for anxiety. I had probably 3 panic attacks day of surgery, during and after. It was really scary. Eyes are very sensitive and irritated and it's hard to sleep so I'm tired all the time.
But my follow up doctor said that I'm overachieving compared to most people. I'm doing really well and healing, nothing abnormal. I don't have to go back.
It's a huge relief and I will soon feel like a new person. I got may hair cut and highlighted so I'm blonde again, and I been too upset the past 2 weeks to eat much so I've lost weight. Just trying to focus on healing and resting then after that comes the arts and crafts show. The day after that is a concert I don't want to go to so I'm just blocking it out as much as possible so I don't stress about it.
