Kentucky update
Day two of our recon trip and we have done all we had hoped to do by noon local (CDT) time. We really only had two places that we definitely knew we wanted to see and found, once we got here, that all the other places that were affordable to us were in crappy neighborhoods or else right ON a major road or highway. Of the two, one is just a few blocks away from a lovely park and golf course. Nice area. On the other hand, the nearest bus stop is at least a couple of blocks away, too. It had approx. 60-80 units clustered tightly in a rectangle around a pretty damn small green-space and a pool, which was RIGHT outside of what would be our door and picture window. Seriously, it was a sidewalk's width away. Folks we spoke to here at the hotel said they had friends who lived there and they hated how noisy it was. Strike one, two, three, you're ouddathere!
The other place is much more spread-out on very nice grounds, with a bus stop RIGHT outside the main entrance, and every apt. has either a patio or balcony, unlike the first place. Their pet rates are much more reasonable than the first (I love dogs and we want to get one, but do we want to add $50 to our rent for the privilege? Not so much. $20 a month? That seems fair). The kitchen was a pretty unappealing dead-end layout, but that place also offers a floor-plan with a fireplace that offers a kitchen with 2 entrances. We hope to get one of those, on the first floor (in case we have the EMTs over for coffee again), but we'd settle for the dead-end kitchen layout on first floor.
We filled out the application, paid the application fee and left a security deposit to guarantee we get the next suitable apt. to come available. Then we went for a drive, found a very cool farmstand (with fudge! and other good yummies) and played total tourist, then we went to Olive Garden and stuffed ourselves full with salad and appetizer before our entrees came. They're in the mini fridge for our supper now. (We might be finishing those off on the bus tomorrow, for all I know now.)
Now we're having quiet time. Sshhhhh.....

Aw, house hunting. I remember that. What a pain in the butt! I do hope you find what\'s right for you two (or three, if a dog comes on board). The farm stand sounds lovely. Much love. Heather.
Just wait \'till ya get here and feel up to doin\' some explorin\'! We have hills and flat land, very open areas and forests.
The town you are interested in is a nice River town (btw, Paducah is nice, too! Not as big , though) , but there is more to KY than that!
There are good medical care facilities in the town you chose, too. My daughter spent a few days in a hospital there after a car wreck, and I have friends in Muhlenberg County that go there for medical care for various reasons.
Cool. Thanks for the heads-up, Nancy. We rode the bus, so saw both flat and lumpy land. Looks like a state with a lot to offer. We\'re excited, though both pretty wiped out again today.
