Kasey
Well, this has been a week from hell...will it never end??? It seems we get over one hurdle to slam into another..As most know I am an animal nut ,and have way more pets than I need but each is very special to me and a big part of my life.Well, way before Thanksgiveing my oldest son helped out his friends by dog sitting thier dog Kasey ,suppossedely for two weeks. Mind you I already had three of my own and in December rescued another little girl dog I named bella. One big happy dog family not to mention all the cats but thats besides the point.lol. Here it is March and we were still blessed with Kasey. She came to us all shy and scared but it didnt take long for her to liven up and love playing with all the other dogs.He owners maybe came to see her once a month but meanwhile my son and Kasey were inseperatable She was like his child. She only listened to him... When our three male dogs went into heat it wasnt safe for her to be in the house so my son went to stay with his girlfriend and of course took his daughter(Kasey) He had came to the conclusion that after five months of careing for her that she was and always will be his dog.Especially since the owners cared so little as to leave her for five months.Well, my son had stayed away with Kasey for three weeks until he felt it ok to bring her back home. While he was gone I visted kasey and took her treats. I was very happy to have them both finally home.Three days after he was back, everything changed forever. We just got a new go kart and my son was excited to ride ,so Monday he got up and was rideing all over and since Kasey was following he decided to give her a ride. She loved it and sat right in his lap.Unfortunately my son used very bad judgement and went to far from home and went down a steep hill and the brakes went out. He crossed a road and slammed into a deep ditch. His helmet flew off and he was stuck ,he remembers kasey walking up the road before he passed out, assumeing she was headed for home.A few guys helped him out of the ditch and on an adreniline rush he drove back home.He doesnt remember driveing back and we cant figure out how he made it the shape the go kart was in.He was limping and asked if Kasey had come home ,but she hadnt. We were not sure at that time if he sprained or broke his foot but his main focus was only on Kasey. He called friends and 8 people went out looking for her, assumeing she was spooked and hideing .They walked in the cold through the fields and we drove the close roads, stopping to talk with everyone we seen.frustrated at dark we had to quit just hopeing she would find her own way.She had a tag on her with her name and her other owners phone but we werent sure if the number was good.I had called the local dog wardens to also keep an eye out for her.In pain my son would not quit thinking of her somewhere lost and cold.At about 8;00pm that night the owners texted my son and said how are you and Kasey doing. Now what are the odds people we never hear from texts him on the same day we lost Kasey. He was scared and felt terrible and said what should I say.I told him just be honest we are looking for her...He felt so guilty he couldnt answer the text.At about 9;00 pm as we are still going outside calling her name ,my son comes to me in a pannick and in tears saying mom I think Kasey is dead.Suppossedly he went on myspace to the owners profile and for thier status it read: Kasey Rest In Peace. He was shakeing so bad he couldnt dial the phone but he called his friends and asked ,,She said yes Kasey was dead and a guy hit her on the main road just down from our home.,and called her and returned her tags.My son said he blacked out and cant remember anything else she said except Kasey was gone....The owners I guess posted tons of pics of Kasey all over thier myspace page, like they truly missed a dog they dumped five months ago..My son cried for his dear beloved Kasey for two days.I was very afraid the first night he would harm himself because he blamed himself for her death.I stayed up talking with him and watching tv until 3;00amThe worst part is the owners found out she had died around four that afternoon, and when they text at 8;00 they were playing games.Obviously they never realized just how much Kasey ment to my son..How much she ment to us all.My son still has all her belongings in his room and it breaks his heart not seeing her anymore. We now have an empty place in our hearts and home..I just wish we could start that terrible day all over and change the outcome. My son will always blame himself for his desicions that day but I feel if the owners wouldnt have left her for five months it may have never happened either. At this point it doesnt help to blame anyone or keep reliveing the tragic day...we have to move on,hopefully my son can

So sorry to hear aboyt Kasey:( It\'s always hard to loose a pet, even if you only had her for a short time. (((HUGS))) to you & your son :)
I am terribly sorry to hear about your lose. Losing a pet is like losing a member of your family. I think your son should try and not be too hard on himself. It was truely an accident and as hard as I know it is saying what if does not change anything. I have a 12 year old daughter and 2 years ago she made a bad decision and one of our pets died. She was suppose to be taking him out to potty and was goofing around and he got out of her hands and ran in front of a car and was hit. He died right away and she was forced to pick him up and carry him in the house. Like you he wasn\'t really our pet. My Mom had gotten him and my Dad wouldn\'t let her keep him because of another dog they had. In the beginning I did not want this dog. I love dogs, but it was while I was going through a deep depression in my life. I had to take this dog to my Mom\'s and tell her what had happened. My daughter was hysterical saying she couldn\'t gace her gram because she had killed her dog. My Mom called my daughter the next day, said she loved her and forgave her and together they made him a grave marker. It helped my daughter heal, but she still talks about her decision and is much more careful and responsible with our other dogs now. I hope your son can forgive himself. It was an accident. It sounds to me like he had great love for his dog. These other people did not care for this dog, if they had they would have taken care of her the proper way. My Mom came almost every day to see her dog and paid for all of the vet bills and his food. I hope the hole in your hearts heals fast and you are able to remember all of the great things about Kasey. (((HUGGS))) to you and your son.
Just a terrible accident Tammy, and I am so sorry it happened! I am however glad your son is ok, he could have been hurt a lot worse! Just keep telling him it was an accident and I know as time passes the pain will lessen!
Oh my goodness Tammy!!! I am so sorry to hear about this...this is such a tradgedy for your son and I know how he feels. It doesn\'t take long to get so attached to these lovely animals...it will take your son time...he will never forget...but as time goes on the pain is less....it\'s only been a month since we had to put our beloved dog Romeo to sleep...and he was with us for 15 years....it is so very very difficult....I will say some extra special prayers for your son and for Kasey...who is no doubt on Rainbow road playing with the other dogs. *hugs*
I am so sorry that Kasey died. I hope your son will not feel it is his fault because this was an accident and unfortunately sometimes this kind of stuff happens. I think it was very nice of you and your son to take this dog in and help this dog. You are obviously not uncaring people, you cared a great deal for this dog and this makes you good. Your son did not want this to happen. It was an accident. It is very sad. You are all good people and I hope you will feel better and realize this was an accident. Your son made a mistake, he did not mean too and I am sorry for the loss of this dog. I pray the dog will be happy in heaven. I am sure Kasey knew that he was loved.
Oh Tammy that was awful! How heart breaking for you and your family.
What is it with people posting about death on facebook and myspace? I found out a very good friend of mine passed away on facebook and I was just in shock. How horrible for your son. The text thing was out of line! The internet can be so wonderful for places like this and then you read something like that and want to unplug it!!
You are in my thoughts.
