Just my Belief's

I have mixed feelings about the tragedy in Boston today. My feelings aren't mixed about what happened. For that, there is deep sadness for all who are affected. My mixed feelings are about how so many tragedies, like this one, go on every day yet don't receive the same degree of compassion and support as those tragedies which are most highly publicized. My mixed feelings are about how some tragedies are considered "acceptable losses" and swept under the rug merely because they happened in faraway countries or minority cultures in our own society where tragedy is a rare occurrence... it's a way of life.My mixed feelings are about how even the tragedies in our daily lives are forgotten, or even minimized, because the "big" tragedies didn't happen to us uniquely.
I belong to a Child Abuse and Incest Abuse site on DS. The stories I have read and my personal life experiences have been what one would call in my opinion a “tragedy.” Was my Mom “evil” when she beat us with wooden spoons, steel end of a fly swatter, coat hangers, 2’ 4” wood pieces, held us down and beat us till we were black and blue, locked us in closets, burnt us with cigarette’s, choked us, et. Was my Dad “evil” when he stood by and did nothing. Was I “evil” when I hit a little boy I babysat? Was I “evil” when I wanted to hurt my children the same way I had been tortured? My parents themselves were beaten, abused, abandoned much worse than they did to us. Were their parents “evil?” I believe “evil” acts come from learned behavior; cultural belief’s. This act is not of God. The darkness we experience personally and globally is an opportunity for us to turn to the LIGHT that sustains all of us. We here on DS are blessed to have the support of others and for that I am so grateful. It’s a possibility that this Site has kept someone from doing “evil” acts. Only by the Grace of God did I not hurt my parents or loved ones. I feel I have been blessed to break the cycle of abuse; by doing so, stopping tragedy.
It’s been said that a grain of sand cannot shift on the beach that it does not affect the whole beach. I believe Our personal change/self-awareness/ personal growth I does affect the world. We must continue to be a Light. While I deeply honor the loss of lives, sanity, safety, and much more from today's tragedy in Boston,I also want to take this moment to honor the tragedies that each and every person in this world goes through:Big and small...Close and far away...For people alive today and also those who are no longer with us.In our reflection and holding space, let us remember this quote from Henry Ward Beecher:"Compassion will cure more sins than condemnation."We cannot change what happened nor what happens. We cannot change others. We can change our view of the world and how we react to it.Let us have faith in the goodness of humanity even when the world gives us justifiable reason not to.Let us create the world we want, even amidst the chaos - even when that seems to pull us so quickly and easily away from the very world we seek to create.Let us love even when it hurts.Let us unify even with those who seek to divide. For any other way...Is only creating more of the same world we seek so deeply in our hearts to heal.

I think you made some heart wrenching comments here. I was incredibly moved and I understand what you mean. There are tragedies everywhere, some \'seen\' some \'unseen\'. Lots of love to you and the amazing person you are. Xxx

Hi Vicki,

Hugs from me, too. It is hard, and I do get what you mean about the other tragedies that do not get the level of attention that some do. They are nevertheless, tragic, too.

Hugs,

Shar

I believe we can each be like a grain of sand on that beach. We can say heartfelt prayers every day. We can wish the best for others every day. We can extend small gestures of kindness every day. It seems small, just being one grain of sand... but as you said, one little grain of sand affects the entire beach. (((HUGS))) and thank you for sharing this.

Hey Vicki..I am in totla agreement with you on this \"My mixed feelings are about how some tragedies are considered \"acceptable losses\" and swept under the rug merely because they happened in faraway countries or minority cultures in our own society where tragedy is a rare occurrence... it\'s a way of life\". Deat is death and life is life, ...no matter what the circumstance. Governments IMO and (my beliefs) the propoganda machine will justify some deaths are more morally justified thatn others. To me that is wrong (coming from thos who purport to be \'righteous\').

Im glad that I choose to look at a bigger and wider picture today. Anyway \"Just My beliefs\" also.

Thanks
Dave
