Journey back to truck driving

After a long 2.5 years of being on disability and trying to at least get physically healthy, I am about to go back to work again this week. Truck driving is my second career. I spent 16 years of my adult life in Information Technology before effectively aging out after my last layoff. I got my CDL in February of 2015 and drove for 90 days before all of my problems began developing. I developed diabetes, hypertension, and my weight ballooned to 366 pounds. Once hospitalized with diabetic ketoacidosis, my world unravelled and I had to give up my medical card. It was like a house of cards collapsed.

I will never be completely mentally healthy as I am Autistic and have co-morbid anxiety and depression, but at least physically I am now able to work again. I had Gastric Bypass 4 months ago and I am now 294 pounds. Effectively, I will be a rookie driver again and it was a blessing finding Schneider, a reputable carrier willing to hire me on and get me back up to speed. I just hope that I have the stress tolerance for truck driving. I know I am a lot physically healthier and that should play a part in it. I am a nervous wreck but I keep telling myself to take it one day at a time.

One day at a time, is the right outlook to have.

Its going to be a bit scarey at first. Getting loaded, finding where to go and unload etc. But after a few times, you'll be doing it without any problems.

I know you have anxiety over all of this and that's normal. But your outlook seems pretty positive too.

Good luck and keep us posted.
