it's a long way up.....

to the top........Hello Dear One,
How are you?  I am topsy turvy......managed to do a minimum of chores.  Noted that Annie has again been pawskating on top of the stove.  Drives me crazy.
Pawskating?  She, sweet quiet trouble making pretty little green eyed Annie leaps to the top of the counter by the stove and skates all over the freshly cleaned shiny smooth surface day after day. In hopes of finding crumbs.....crunchy edible food crumbs.  She is always certain that she is hungry......no matter how well fed she is.
There are her pretty little paws tracking across the black ceramic top..........I never see her do it, for she has learned not to in the presence of her captain.
Rio and Annie both nestle in close to my body as I rest.  They mold themselves to the side of my back and the bend in my legs.  And there we are, all huddled together sleeping most of the time.  Occasionally we are awake.......the kitties line up with their heads up high......and we all watch Star Trek, the Next Generation.  Their favorite episodes are when Data's pet cat, Spot is a part of the show.  They feel, like many cats that dogs get the primary action when it comes to celebrity, they try not to be bitter.......but they would like to see more of their kind featured on television and on film.
i have been conked out due to a cold, a fever and the usual chronic stuff.  been taking over the counter generic orange dayquil stuff.  it dries me up so i can breathe.......and helps me rest.  my voice is starting to sound more normal.......i just tested it, sang some lines from a song......"You're all I need to get by, oh yeah.......you're all I need to get by"........who sang that?  Was it Diana Ross or ?
When I woke up today I thought soup........perfect.  Warm, ready in three minutes.  Half of an orange.....lots of fluids.  Just right.  After I ate I nestled down under the covers, let my mind wander.  Planned a marketing campaign to sell more soup.  Wondered why soup companies don't market their product to one of the most consumed meals of the day?
Hmmmmm, I decided that since within imagination world their is no budgetary constraint I would reach out to Pharrell Williams to come up with a series of short songs to promote soup in a joyous way.  I would get restaurants to offer it to their customers instead of toast and coffee.........or plain ol oatmeal.  I like fast and warm for breakfast........and this little sideline thinkering gave me pleasure for a while. An escape from being a paperweight in my bed.
Before I go back there........succumb to the goodness it provides I think I will move a few pieces of decor around, give me new things to look at.  little things help.  maybe i will put on a long strand of pearls over my nightgown and put on a pretty crocheted teal hat?  tired of being so predictable.   i will slather my arms & hands in Ann Taylor's wonderful vanilla lotion.........it's called Sugar Vanilla and smells so incredibly good.  It manages to combine a soft powdery sensation with  sweet sugar and soft vanilla.......it's a great aromatic non chewy snack for the senses.  laughing a little..........
makes me want a piece of chocolate.  i wonder how many cultures do serve soup for breakfast and if there are others like me who enjoy soup for starting the day could there not be a real market for breakfast soup in the U.S. market?
i may have a little time on my hands......more than the average bear, but it's nice to know that even if my thoughts are silly that i can in fact still think.
sending you love, wishes for a warm comfy cozy day and a bit of joy wherever you are, whatever you are doing.......i miss you.  i wish i could prepare for Christmas, but maybe Christmas will be in January or February .......why rush????? don't worry, be happy!
hugs, sparrow
p.s. A Happy Memory from Thanksgiving
did i tell you about Harrison?  Harrison and I met this Thanksgiving.  He is a blond headed boy of five......curious as all boys tend to be.  I was sitting at the grand piano, contemplating the fact that I do not play when Harrison wandered over.  He pointed to the capital letter H of the brand name of this grand, made by Hailun....and said the H proved that this was in fact HIS PIANO.
I said..."So anything beginning with H belongs to you?? ? He was delighted with my quick assessment that the H in Harrison and the H in Hailun verified his personal ownership and that I was astute enough to get it.
He said he wanted to play.  So I slid over & he sat down.  He began banging out a loud cacaphony of notes.  Jangled and discordant to say the least.  He hammered and slid his tiny grubby chocolate tinged fingers up and down the keys and I zipped my lips shut.  Long habit wanted me to grab his little hands and wash them off.......but I thought oh what the hey?  Be a boy......have at it!  I can clean the keys later.
I asked him how long he had studied piano. "Five years." said he, with the assurance and confidence of a master.  "So you started playing the day you were born?  I asked.
"Of course, said young master Harrison, "Didn't you?"
Sadly I replied I was very old when I started to take lessons.  I was at least seven or eight.  He looked at me as only a five year old can..........seven or eight might as well be one foot in the grave.
I asked  if he had studied jazz professionally?  He said, NAH!!!" scornfully.  I asked him if he had ever listened to Coltrane or Miles Davis as an influence on his own personal style.  He cocked his head and say NO WAY!  Then he stopped playing the keys abruptly, the quiet was sudden (and wonderful for these old ears!)
Then he said, "Don't you know even know "Jesus loves  me this I know?"
I said "Silly me!" Explained that I was confused.  I apologized and told him that I didn't recognize his lively rendition, probably my ears are just all plugged up.  He looked at me, grabbed one of my earlobes, shook it, shook his head and then he belted out, "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so......!!!!"
He was wonderful.......as off key as his own personal playing style, but the love in his heart was fierce and genuine.  He asked, "Do you remember the words now? ?  I said ,"Yes!", so he played his unique rendition and I sang Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS. and he helped!!!!!!
It was the best part of Thanksgiving for me this year.

Harrison ....... makes me think, what a shame that we lose so much as we grow up.
