It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door"
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings I don’t claim to be eloquent like J.R.R> Tolkien…. But I do know that Bilbo was not telling Frodo to stay indoors! Today I put on my shoes (A first since breaking my toe) and headed out for a walk… I walked past all my old stopping, resting, catch my breath… wait till some body part quits hurting, so I can go on, places and just kept right on going! I was feeling adventurous! I realized this was the first time I had gone on a walk in our neck of the woods since I was home recovering from my bypass surgery. And I was feeling the freedom from my old, fat, ways… When I hit the railroad/power line access road… I started jogging! A first for me… (with the exception of having to run to get out of the way of a car or something!). I never ever thought I could jog! I have had a total knee replacement, reconstructive surgery on the opposing ankle and a flippin broken toe! But I jogged! For 30 minutes I jogged! And I made a new friend…. See the old fella in the picture? I passed him going the other way… then made my way back to him on my way towards home (He’s I’d guess in his 80’s)… We chatted, he told me about how the area had grown so much… and then, he told me to have a nice jog (ME!? Have a nice jog!) Then followed it with “Whenever I get the urge to jog, I go lay down for a while!” <giggle> I finally had to return to a walk… because my toe was hurting. Not mind you because my back, my knees, or any other body part was hurting! Nor was I out of breath! Not THAT kind of outta breath where you’re sure you might need someone to call the EMT’s… In spite of the cold, I did have sweat running and a nice, breathy feeling going on… A HEALTHY breathy feeling! Before I made the final turn to come home I came across some wildlife on my journey out my door… You just never know what you’ll see in your adventures!! Lions, and tigers and bears! Oh my! ok… ok… so it was a Tabby cat! Don’t you have ANY imagination!? After my journey down the access road of life… I returned home. It may not be a big circle door like Bilbo’s and Frodo’s… In the Shire, at Bag-end… but my snowman welcomed me home just the same. And I am oh so glad I wandered out my front door today.
