It is not so much that I hate phones
I've had jobs where I worked on the phone. I don't have much trouble talking to strangers and before all this happened with my mother not much trouble talking to others I know when they called only occasionally. The problem is since my mother got ill I have had on average two to three calls per day. I am still ok with strangers or friends calling occasionally but I am tired of the incessant calls from especially my brother. I've decided to not be as bothered when my sister calls because she is lonely and she only wants to share her life with me. I can't begrudge her that, even tho when the phone rings it makes me jump and I have to recover form it. But I have decided not to let her know and be cordial to her. But with my brother I am sure it is some kind of power trip on his part to call me all the time and ask me stupid things or make plans just to break them later that day or the next day. It is either on purpose that he does this or he is the most incompetent and ignorant, insensitive and inconsiderate person of which I have ever heard. In the last week alone he has called me eleven times. That is about how many times he may have called me before this started in six months.I know our lives have changed but is he really that dependent on others that he needs to invent some reason to call me so often. Other than returning his calls I have only called him perhaps three times in the last month. There are some reasons to call each other, there are things that have to be said but his incessant calling is driving me crazy.
One of the others here that I correspond with has gotten me to think about it and I dont have so much a problem with phones as with the people that use them to call me. If the phone rings once a day it wouldn't be a bother unless it was every morning before I want to wake or late at night after I have gone to sleep. But to be called two, three or more times a day and have the calls amount to nothing but something stupid that locks up my time and thoughts making me dread the next time the phone rings; well, it isn't the phone it is the person making the calls.
But I do not foresee any peace until my father has passed on and the estate is settled and then I can break off any ties with my brother that I may have and tell him to stop bothering me. I can't do that completely now because of those few times a month when we do have to talk but once it is finally over I will have no more use for my brother and I will not let him use me any more.
