inspiring words from a priest/ friend

I wrote the following message to a priest friend who is

based in Switzerland. He and I have become friends.

I wrote this to him:

Father, I want to confide in you that I can be very variable inside. This morning it overwhelms me. Now that services is over, I am focusing on humility and gratitude while I drink coffee. My condition makes me boggle my mind as to how people can build and conduct their lives. Thank you for being there and for serving as a kind example. Have a good weekend ahead!

Then he wrote;

We all go through variations inside of us. This is the human condition. The fact that you do not see it in some people does not mean it does not happen in them also. Our freedom is related to what we decide to do about the negative thoughts when they come. Focusing on ourselves rarely helps. We are free to decide to say the Jesus prayer. Or to focus on humility and gratitude, as you just have. Also, at the precise moment when we feel that we do not "have it in us" to do something which is part of our duties or our regular practice, we are free to nonetheless start to do it, putting our trust in God, doing just one step at the time. We need the strength to do one step. The strength to do the second step may well be given only once the first step has been accomplished. Much love in Christ!
