Insomnia

Now I'm paranoid about being able to sleep. Mum still puts her TV loud and every alternative I suggest is not listened to and she talks as if I am the problem.

Starting to feel really ill. I have always had trouble with sleep and it has probably been the root to a lot of the problems in my life.

I'm continuing to think that the world would be a better place without me in it.

Not true. Your daughter and your students need your presence in their life. Go easy on yourself!

Get the dead noise ear muffleis. They are well worth the sleep you'll get from them. Your daughter needs you and so do your students. You are stronger than you realize. You're going to have to put YOU first when it comes to your mum which means just doing what works for you without any conversation of conflict (tv noise) with your mum. You are the adult taking care of yourself.

You can buy high quality noise canceling ear plugs or headphones which are very reasonably priced. I work with very loud construction machinery and I think mine were $5 and I can't hear anything when I have them on. They are not expensive. You can get them on ebay or amazon or any discount store like walmart or home improvement store like home depot. The other option would be to get mum a hearing aide.

Perhaps you can persuade your Mom to have a hearing test. Sometimes the elderly have too much ear wax accumulated in their ears (because declining cognition prevents them from cleaning their ears), such that they cannot hear. A doctor can check the ears for ear wax before resorting to hearing aids. There are ear wax softener drops in the pharmacies that you can buy to apply in the ears to soften/melt the wax, so that the doctor can flush out the wax with a stream of water. If the GP fails to clean the ears, there is always the ENT doctor.

Even without ear wax, there is a high probability that elderly persons have reduced hearing anyway.

Lack of sleep will definitely mess with your thinking. You are very needed though, and I hope you feel better soon. I like other people's suggestion of getting ear plugs. That's what my husband does when we visit family, and they are loud. It really helps him sleep. I hope you get to feeling better, and you get some much needed rest. Hugs!

Ear plugs haven't really worked for me up until this point, but I will invest in some good quality ones.

Thank you all for your help.

I'm pretty suicidal at the moment. I'm sure this will pass but not enjoyable lol
