Impatience
More ignoration and a blocked driveway from the contractor. The blocked driveway feels like adding insult to injury. You couldn't have pulled it up another six feet to leave me driveway access? The contracted deadline is next week and an unsafe pile of rubble which used to be to the old building and a parked dump truck blocking driveway are all I have to show for the substantial sum which I paid out. I have been trying to show compassion for his wife's illness, but I am wondering if absolving him of the responsibility would be the most compassionate thing I can do for him. Dunno. There hasnae been enough communication for me to have any more than conjectured guesses to work with.
I sent him a text message last night asking if it is time to talk about refunds and complaining about the blocked driveway. Very soon after, I received a text from an unidentified number inviting me to lunch. I assumed it was him, attempting to make amends. WTF? Lunch didnae interest me anywhere near as much as resolution, but many a resolution has been forged over lunch. I went with the flow. An uncharacteristic number of texts later, it occurred to me to ask, "Is this Kenneth?" Turns out I was exchanging texts with the lady I met in church this past Sunday. Cha-ching. . . The text exchange clicked into context. Oopsie. . . We shared an LOL and scheduled our outing for later today with clearer context. I am grateful for the distraction.
Still no word from the contractor. My Dumbbroaditis is roaring. . .

I am a compassionate person to a point of trying to help someone when it is with in my ability. but when I have paid for a job to be done I expect it done. when I have been paid I go out of my way to do it. his wife may or may not be dying, is suffering, but his responsibility is to get the work done. that deadline is a marker for him being a failure or success at his business. people need to count on him to step up and be the boss, you need the job done. maybe he needs the dump truck enough to got a boot/tire luck put on it until you see him in person again? don't know just suggesting...
lunch with a local is a good start to being a part of your local...
My lunch date is another recent immigrant to the area. She moved down from Chicago around the time my sojourn was losing momentum this past summer. Immigrant commiseration? What's up with THAT?
a town that small, get a few more immigrants in your group and you could stir it up.
have a blessed day
i am really sorry you have to deal with this. Contractors can be sneaky and irresponsible - the bad ones. What I learned when renovating homes is that you need to stagger the payments. Partial to start - partial at the middle point - and then the final payment once work is done. I nearly didn't see a project finished and then I said in my toughest voice... "I have the last payment here!"... The contractor came in 20 minutes and the final work was done. It's a shame you gotta be this way...
That's funny about the lunch date... haha
Lol oopsie is right. You seem to go with flow well arfie~ kudos
I get the frustration, there is compassion and there is obligation. Tough roads. Triple hugs
Wishful thinking?
Don't discount Church Ladies...they are often very competent at getting things done.
The lunch date turned in to a 6 hour affair, much of it spent walking through chill drizzle. I needed that!
