If You're a Feminist, It's Time to Switch to Vegan Eggs - LIVEKINDLY

The question of whether feminism and veganism intersect has reemerged after powerful female social media personality and animal rights advocate Kalel “Kitten” Smith announced that she eats eggs.

Kalel Smith, popularly known as Kalel Kitten, is a YouTuber who boasts more than 1.9 million subscribers. She has supported the anti-sexual harassment feminist #MeToo movement and criticised social-media-imposed beauty standards. She also claimed to be vegan for five years and promoted vegan fashion with animal rights charity PETA.

Surprising her followers, Smith recently posted a YouTube video where she revealed she has “started to supplement my diet with pasture-raised eggs and small amounts of meat.”

As little children, we love animals so much; our whole face just lights up with wonder and amusement whenever we see them. Our parents, who will do just about anything to make us smile, realize this right away… so they take us to petting zoos, buy us stuffed toys and even dress us up as animals for Halloween. Then, without explanation, they begin to put little ripped up pieces of dead animals on our plate. This lack of explanation causes a disconnect SO great, that to this day the majority of the population claims to “love animals” while they eat their corpses, wear their skin and drink their stolen breast milk ON THE DAILY. I don’t know about you, but that’s not personally how I show someone I love them. And I mean, fuck, I can’t help but wonder how many of us would be eating animals today if we were GIVEN A CHOICE as children and made aware of what we were choosing to take part in? Hm, I don’t know, but it’s surely something interesting to think about. Tradition is so powerful; one parent’s choice can span endless generations… but this is one seemingly perpetual tradition that I think needs to be broken. Children deserve to know what they are eating! Meh. Just a late night thought that I wanted to share.
