I would like your opinion on dating

I would like your opinion on dating.  I am dating Dave.  He is not the one I want to spend the rest of my life with so I am on two free online dating services and am keeping my eyes open.  Is it wrong to use Dave as a safety net so it stops me from making mistakes or jumping into situations?  I just turned 56 and life is too short to get it wrong now at this time of my life.  If I break up with Dave, I would be alone.  I don't like being alone.  I am so used to having Smokey in my life and we were partners.  We did things together and had a lot of fun, which is why he was my soul mate.   Dave doesn't like to do things and spends his time drinking beer.  Its his lifestyle and not one that I want to keep in my own life.  I like to do things like going out to eat, walking, going out to a movie (even though its expensive), visiting people, socializing, shopping, etc.  I don't like always hanging out at a bar or staying home watching TV.  Life is much too short and getting shorter all the time.  I want to do something positive with my life but not sure what that is at the moment.  I have been blessed with good people, family and friends in my life including yourselves.  Its nice when we can share what we have been blessed with to other people that we meet.  I am a sharer that is for sure.  God has blessed me in surviving the loss of the love of my life Smokey.  I want to use the life God blessed me with in a positive way.  Hanging out with Dave is not so positive.
So....what is your opinion about me dating Dave while in search of another love of my life?
Asking from Diane B.

OK..Diane I am going to give you my honest opinion...first does Dave know you are listed on two dating sites? Is he moved into the relationship than you? Does he think the two of you are going to spend the rest of your lives together? I don\'t like being alone either but I don\'t think I could just see someone while looking for another. Do you guys live together? It doesn\'t seem like you two are a very good match from what you explain in your journal..so why stay in the relationship if you are not happy? You are right you still have many years ahead of you and shouldn\'t settle...I will stay alone unless the right person comes into my life. I am also on a dating site but I still haven\'t found anyone that I would even consider to have a relationship with....Hope my opinion helps and doesn\'t offend you in any way....Hugs, Ellen

The answer isn\'t that simple. You\'re taking advantage of Dave only if he\'s looking for a serious relationship, one where you eventually settle down and spend the rest of your life together. If he\'s only interested in having some fun then it doesn\'t matter; keep looking for your forever partner and don\'t worry about it.
