I Speak Bird...well, sorta-kinda
I speak bird. Well, okay, I speak bird only to the extent of the pet cockatiel in my house. But today I was her best friend.
This bird peeps a lot when she needs something. Sometimes she needs her seed cup filled, sometimes she just needs her "flock" (in quotes because the caretakers don't have wings). Today she was calling for flock to hang out with her after lunch. Since I didn't feel like doing much because I honestly have only slept meh the last few nights, I was only too happy to oblige.
The interesting thing is she usually won't let me pick her up so I can take her to a chair and let her sit on my knee. When I stick a hand out, she jumps and flutters to a contolled landing. So I go to the chair...it's always the same one. And after a moment, the cockatiel figures out that I only want to give her flock, so she pitter-patters over and climbs onto my footwear. Then I'll raise my leg and let her climb up to her sitting post.
The bird tends to freak at noises like vacuums and mixers...I guess she fears that a predator around when that happens. So when mother was mixing a coffee cake for breakfast, I gave the bird flock again...and then fell asleep in my chair. It would have made for a funny photo, the way I conked out. I'm pretty sure my mouth was half open and I was just out cold with this bird on my knee. Guess I needed the sleep.
