I Need A Purpose...
Since I left my office job a little over a year ago, l do keep busy with free events and some exercise classes, but lots of times I'm bored. I'm usually alone all week and on weekends I see my sister or my one girlfriend.
I got to thinking: I have no purpose!! I need a purpose in life!!
I'm sure a lot of you on this site are in the same situation with not working. Boy does it get dull. Do you feel you need a purpose, a reason to get up, and what do you do about finding one? Am I just over-thinking this? Should I stop worrying about this? I need some advice! Help before I go bonkers with boredom!!

If I didn’t have to work, I would make my passion my purpose. For me, it’s gardening. Find your passion, and make it your purpose.
Yeah geez if I didn't have to waste all my time working at my stupid job, I would get all kinds of shit done. When I have been jobless before, I did a lot of drawing and painting, house cleaning, yardsales, gardening, working out, writing a cookbook. Now I have to work and make time for my hobbies, whereas before I did whatever I wanted. Perhaps you would like video games? They're a great immersive way to pass time and feel useful. And the guys at game stores love old ladies who game! You would be like a celebrity!
Or volunteer. There are a lot of places that need help. Hospitals, nursing homes, tutors for
kids, visiting shut ins, food pantry, animal shelter, etc.
I know that you have tried the volunteering already and do take exercise classes but I guess you need more in life. I know you live in a condo so gardening isn't an option but there must be something you enjoy doing. I also know that you already take walks and visit the library and do as many free things as you can around your neighborhood. Have you ever just gotten in your car an drove around to new places just to check them out? Sometimes just getting out of the house is good enough if you don;t have any real passion for something. Are there any animal shelters nearby? That might be a good idea even if only a couple days a week.
I hope yo fins something soon before you go bonkers....hugs, Jean
You and me both. I work a lot now, so the down time is kept to a minimum. I'm trying to get motivated to do some officiating, which will take up some weekends. I can only reiterate what others are saying, find a passion. Of course like in my case, when your passion is taken away, finding a new purpose is easier said than done. I like the idea of exercise. At least that will wear you out so you can get a good nap in.
My dogs, nature & gardening are my passion. Of course I could add gambling. I will start fishing the 3rd weekend in June. Will take the dogs & see if that works out.
What about taking a course, learn to speak a second language, or an art class. Hugs! Brooke
