I'm Pretty Furious
I am really mad. Like, madder then I have been in awhile, and I've been mad alot lately. And it's not even at Joey! Gasp!
It's at his sister. Kimmy and I get along great. She has alot of faults, but I can look past them because in general she's a really great person. She was the first family member of Joey's to make me feel welcome, we hang out without Joey and I never feel akward like I do with his other sister. I can tell her almost anything.
Lately she has been dumber then normal. That sounds harsh, but it's true. She has started smoking pot. Kimmy has 4 kids, 2 live with her, 2 her parents raise. She has started smoking pot while they are at daycare and then while they are sleeping. She was diagnosed with depression, but she doesn't take her meds, instead, she self medicates. That's not even what I'm mad about though.
So she is going to visit her sister in another city last Friday. And she asks us if we will watch her puppy over the weekend, she will be home Monday, so we say 'sure, drop her off'.
So she drops her off, her kennel and her dog bed and heads out. About an hour later she texts me to tell me that her dog, Ariel, may be going into her first heat. Well, that's lovely. But what's lovlier? We have two intact male dogs of our own!! So they show alot of interest in Ariel over the weekend but nothing happens. Then Monday Kimmy texts and says she isn't coming home until Thursday. Well on Wednesday Ariel starts bleeding. All over the place. On our couches, our carpet, our clothes. I fashioned a diaper for her out of one of Marlows, but Ariel is 5lbs and Mar wears size 6 diapers. It was a battle to keep it on but I just kept doing it telling myself if was only for a day. Then Thursday Kimmy doesn't come home, or bother to text. Today rolls around, and I text her, and she says she might come home tomorrow.
Ok WHAT??? Your dog is in heat, we watched her as a favour to you, and now you are going to take advantage and just dissapear for weeks??? I have had to lock her dog up(and I feel terrible about it) in her kennel for hours a time, then let her out and keep her on my lap in a diaper(she can escape the diaper) for a bit at a time. While in her kennel she whines and barks constantly, she kept my daughter up for over an hour with it tonight. My dogs are fighting each other, bad enough to make each other bleed, because they are into Ariel and want to show each other who's the boss.
If Ariel was to get knocked up by one of my dogs it could kill her, so that's another concern.
Plus, Ariel is partially pad trained, and we thought she was off of pads because Kimmy didn't bother to drop some off with her. Well, she has been using jacket sleeves, the middle of my carpet, Marlows stuffies, as pads. And Kimmy has the nerve to tell me I shouldn't be mad because she is pad trained so she is just doing what she is taught. I'm not mad at the dog...I'm mad at her! Now my house smells like dog urine, I have had to throw out toys, I can't get the blood out of my carpet and my couch. I have dogs with scabs all over themselves. I can't even kennel them together, like we always have, because they scrap.
I'm just really really really angry about this.
And to boot, Kimmy is my babysitter while Joey and I both work. She actually got me my job, and I told her I wasn't sure, the hours weren't great for us. She told me not to worry, she would make sure she could babysit when our shifts overlapped. Then when she text me to tell me she wasn't coming home until Thursday I got mad all over. I had told her I worked Thursday. So I had to scramble to find a babysitter, leaning on anyone who owed me a favor.

Oh man, that really, really sucks!!! I just don\'t understand how someone could that damn inconsiderate and selfish!! How do take advantage of FAMILY like that?? What kind of person does that!! It made me furious just to read that, so I can only imagine how pissed you are! It sucks because you can\'t really blame it on the dog, but at the same time the dog ends up being the one to suffer because you can\'t let her run loose and destroy your house, or worse, possibly get pregnant by a big dog. Anyone who would just abandon their animal like that does NOT deserve to be a pet owner! Or a sister or sis-in-law for that matter! They say pot makes you unmotivated... apparently it\'s having an extreme effect on her if she can\'t even motivate herself to get her ass home and take care of her responsibilities! And a pet is a responsibility. I have four cats. I CHOSE that responsibility, so that means I just CAN\'T go away over night whenever I feel like it. If I go to visit someone, I have to make sure I can come home the same day... or MAYBE stay over night and get home the next morning if I leave them a ton of dry food. She has a five lb dog... why couldn\'t she take the dog with her? It\'s not like asking someone to bring a St. Bernard or something massive like that into their home.
I don\'t get it. I\'m so tired of people who take advantage of someone else\'s kindness and generosity. You have a good heart, Jolene! Don\'t ever forget that! And don\'t let some asshole change that! Just remember this for next time... if she ever asks again, you\'ll have a million reasons why it just doesn\'t work. People suck!
Thanks, my dogs are little guys, they are only 7lbs each, but it is her dogs first heat, and she isn\'t done growing yet, so getting pregnant could have bad effects.
She used to bring her with, and then they would just block Ariel in the kitchen when they went out so she still had moving room and didn\'t have accidents that couldn\'t be easily cleaned up. But her sisters boyfriend hates locking the dog in a room and gets mad, and they don\'t want her running loose unsupervised(she is also a chewer, chews anything up) so she leaves her here now.
The thing is, my sister in law is a terrible pet owner. She shouldn\'t be allowed to own pets. She once went up there for \'a weekend\' and stayed for three weeks. Meanwhile, her two guinea pigs starved to death. We finally broke into her house to check on them since no one had a key, and we found one at the top of the stairs dead, and the other in the cage dead, having eaten its own paw. I was sick, I went and threw up. I also gave her so much hell for that. It was the only time I have ever yelled at her.
Now she also has a kitten, but thank god my FIL has a key and he has been going over there to feed it and give it some love, if he wasn\'t it would of long ago run out of food.
I\'m furious, and I feel so bad for Ariel since she is locked up. Her kennel is tiny too. Just a travel kennel. I would put her in our dogs kennel, it\'s way bigger because it\'s for two of them, but I don\'t want her scent to get all over their kennel since they go in their kennel when we aren\'t home. And I don\'t want them getting into it while they are in there or one may kill the other.
Oh man, that is just horrible. Other than harming children, there is nothing that disgusts me more than people who harm animals... and through her neglect, that\'s exactly what she is doing. I just can\'t relate to not totally adoring and loving your pets like they are family members. You wouldn\'t leave a sibling or your child or whatever locked alone in a house and not come home for weeks... so how could you do that to your animals? The story about the guinea pigs literally made me gasp out loud and start getting teary-eyed. That is just disgusting. What was her explanation/excuse for that?? Did she even care about what happened to them?
I\'m a HUGE animal lover, if you couldn\'t tell. My husband and I have four cats right now... we had five until a few months ago when my psycho-house-robbing-junkie neighbors were evicted and they catnapped one of them!! They couldn\'t even take care of the cat they already had, so I don\'t even want to think about what happened to Morgan (the kitten we were caring for that they stole)... they had an infant as well, which is REALLY scary- the state of their apartment when they were evicted was absolutely appalling. They were living in utter filth- the whole place had to be redone before they could rent it again. And that poor baby (and the cat) was wiling in that filth with them. Horrible. But anyway... yeah, I love animals and it just breaks my heart when I see people mistreat... or when people get pets that they don\'t really want or can\'t handle the responsibility. Then you get all of these cats that I see- thrown outside, alone, in the middle of winter and unable to fend for themselves because they\'re used to having people, not being outside street cats. They always show up with cuts and scrapes \'cause they\'re not used to defending themselves- and they want to be held and loved and petted. It makes me SO angry at the people who just tossed them out like trash! We have a few right now that we are feeding. I don\'t know how they find us, but they do- my husband, John, always says that we run a cat hostel. Lol. We do all that we can for these animals. We really can\'t afford to, but we buy lots of extra food to accommodate our visitors. Two of our cats are actually the kittens of a stray we took in a few years ago... we kept two and my grandmother has the other two kittens. We do everything we can to help animals.... and then other people just don\'t have any real love for even their own pets, nevermind animals in general. Those people should NOT be allowed to own pets. It makes me so so so sad. :(
I hope you say something to your SIL about this. Make it clear how unacceptable her behavior is and how neglectful she is being of her pets. AND how much she is inconveniencing her family! It\'s not fair for her to dump the responsibility for her pets of everyone else in her family while she goes on vacation. Didn\'t your say she has kids? If she\'s like this with her pets, how is she with her children?? Kinda scary. Also, how does Joey feeel about this mess? I mean, it\'s his sister, so is he defending her? Or is he just as pissed as you are? I know things can get complicated with in-laws.
So what kind of doggies do you have? And what is Ariel? I love small dogs... my mom has two dogs and they are just my babies. I used to dog-sit for her when they were puppies and I was living nearby a few years ago, so I\'m very close to them. I would love to have a dog here, but my cats would NOT be happy. Heh. :) Anyway, this whole situation sucks... I\'m sorry you have to deal with this craziness. I\'m sure that when she does get home, you will handle it in the best way possible.
That is just awful. I can\'t stand it when family treats each other like that. Sure, you were there for her when she needed someone like family is supposed to do but she\'s taking advantage of you- like family isnot supposed to do. If she doesn\'t come home soon I\'d tell her you\'re going to find another place for her dog to be.
Hope things get better!
My dogs are chihuahuas, and Ariel is a min pin crossed with some sort of terrier.
Joey was mad, we ended up taking Ariel to my inlaws tonight since we couldn\'t do it anymore. Honestly, we would of kept her here if she hadn\'t gone into heat. But with two male dogs it just isn\'t happening. And Kongo has no idea what to do, I had no fear of him, but we adopted Bowzer from a breeder who was retiring him, so he knows what to do and how to do it!
ARGH! Kimmy posted on her facebook that she doesn\'t understand how someone can be mad at her when she is on vacation, because, ya know, no one should be mad when her three day vacation turns into three weeks and she ignores her responsibilities at home
