I'm either too old or too young
Just as I thought, the schedule change made at work has resulted in me not making money. I'm commissioned and really loved the job, but obviously I'm on the road to unemployment. At 55, I have no plans to return to school for a new career. I'm just too old. That leaves living off my retirement, but of course at 55 I'm way too young for that. Life expectancy is about 100 in my family. Although I've prayed for a shorter life, you just never know what God has in store. So basically, I'm too old and too young. I can't win.

I know the feeling. It just never ends.

I am 56 and trying to find work as either a receptionist or administrative assistant. They don\'t want someone my age but that is all I have ever done my entire career. I even took Excel Levels One and Two without much success. I don\'t know what to do. All I need is about $1000 to $1500 per month and I still get my CPP Pension (Canadians only) at about $500 per month. No one can survive on $500 per month. I don\'t know what to do. I figured in my head no matter what I do, the bottom line is that I still need a job. Winning the lottery would be nice - lots of luck - ha ha ha. At our age it is extremely hard. All the best and I am in your shoes as well from Diane B.
Hear you loud and clear. I too am in the same boat. I\'m in a job that I don\'t get a pleasure of doing anymore but I\'m stuck because of my age. I\'m 62 so I\'m stuck here until retirement, the only consolation is that it\'s not too far away. Hope things work out for you, you never know. Hugs
I survive on my late husband\'s retirement benefits and receive 75% of what he would receive from Social Security. His work retirement ended when he died. It truly is scary coping by myself as no one cares \'squat\' about my survival and it is all about my ability to feed the greed of others, which I am unable to do with the annual income I survive on, and this is simply the death process I must cope with. I\'m too ill to do much about any of it and am just thankful for what is good in life where the numbness given by the PTSD allows for my survival.
Gentle ((hugs)) shared.
I think it will need to be a grass roots effort of those struggling with such circumstances coming up with ways of helping the group live better quality lives -- such as what we did in the 60\'s with food co-ops and such. We made huge progress back then in our fight for equality and to eliminate poverty as well as making health care more assessable to those who were low-income. If people mattered as much as \'things\' the needless suffering would be eliminated where as it is so many face actual death when they are too ill to manage on their own. Feed the greed of others is requied for a quality life and those of us without family to help after the death of a spouse it becomes a nightmare just trying to survive. I gave to non-profits over my life believing they were there to help keep people in crisis from falling through the cracks but it turns out it was all HYPE to get us to give donations to them where the \'help\' they provided to those in need on the evening news was just for \'show\' where all of this wonderful help failed to be the \'norm\' behind the scenes of the TV cameras. Sadly, we don\'t get to see the truth behind the scenes until we are falling through the cracks and discover the painful truth of there being no help available outside of the PR campain and evening news programs. I used to believe surely social workers paid for with our tax dollars are there to help those in crisis but they drag their feet and \'drop the ball\' leaving the crisis to only become much more severe over time. All those turkeys given away at Thanksgiving is one of the major PR campaigns that non-profit seem to never pass up on with all the local TV stations following along as the turkeys are handed out causing the donations to roll in big time. Behind the scenes people are dying in crisis where there is no PR to be found.
