I HATE Owning A House!!!
When we first started looking into buying we heard all sorts of things.
'it's cheaper then renting for a place as big as you need'
'you can customize it how you want too!'
'no more depending on a shiesty landlord'
'its something that is truly yours and it will be great!'
Buggers lied to me! In all actuality it's almost exactly what we would pay to rent. It would be about 1200-1300 a month to rent. We pay 950 mortgage + 150 property taxes + 60 house insurance which is getting up to our rent amount. Plus the cash we pay to heat/cool such a large place.
What no one told us is
'oh, EVERYTHING will break and it will break in tandem'
'grass is a bitch to grow, but weeds? Those suckers grow too easy'
'that big deck you have? its going to cost you almost $200 a year in maintenance'
'those property taxes? They will climb and climb and climb'
'after you spend so much on new flooring it will cause one head ache after another'
'new windows are priced similar to famous classical paintings...and that's for the little ones!'
'oh, you wanted to switch out those ugly blinds on your picture window? That will be between 500-1000 for a window that size'
'look at your big flower beds! It's too bad its almost impossible to grow flowers and it's bloody costly'
And so much more. Every day I hate owning a little bit more lol. I know there are tons of people out there who would love to own a home....DONT! It's not as nice as it sounds. It's a headache, and there is always something broken that is too costly to fix. Ugh.

I hear you!!! I have just been thinking how much I would rather live in a condo or townhouse. $10,000 for a roof, $6000 new carpeting, maybe $9,000 to paint every 10 years... I\'m kind of tired of working to afford a house... I\'d rather just have more money to spend now - maybe travel more. And I\'d Love to stop NAGGING my husband to fix that or mow the lawn... he rarely fixes anything - even if it will only take 10 minutes... but he wants a house... go figure... he doesn\'t want to do any work or make it look better - who paints - who gardens - etc etc... he mows the lawn and that is it. And who can afford the fun things to do - like a new kitchen or a new deck... when the furnace goes, the air conditioner, the down stairs sink floods the basement... etc etc.
I know! My spouse likes to do renos but he always stops at like....95% done. We recentley layed laminate ($800 in materials but we did the labour), painted a bunch ($30 because we got a smoking deal and we painted four rooms for that!) and laid new baseboard ($200) and new outlets, doors and door handles ($200, again a smoking deal) and we saved for three years for that! And he quit while there is still a few places missing baseboard, and a few outlets not replaced. We are lucky because Joey works for a place that will sell us materials at cost. So our doors were $10 a door because they were old stock and they wanted them gone. We also shop at ReStore alot, and got 5 gallons of paint for $20. But after we spent all our savings the washing machine broke, the car went kaput and we had to pull over $1000 out of our buts to fix them! Our side yard is full of weeds, and we have a chainlink fence so it looks all ghetto! Our deck we put a bunch of money into two years ago and it\'s aready falling apart. Plus, after renos Joey never moves all his tools back into the garage so I have a pile of tools in my house that will stay there until I dedicate two hours to hauling them all out....a landlord wouldn\'t do that. I just don\'t get the sparkle of home owning. Maybe once it\'s paid off and I have an extra $1000 a month? But by then property taxes will be like, $500 a month I swear. Plus, theres still 27 years to wait for that day!!
