I did something I never thought I would ever do

Okay. On the 28th, It was the night of my school's homecoming dance and I promised my best friend that I would go with her. So me and my best friend are there dancing with one of my other friends. A little backstory, I love singing but I have social anxiety so I don't really sing in front of people unless I trust them a lot. My two friends have heard me sing before and they say that I'm really good.

My friends see a sign saying that there was kareoke going on in the chorus room. My friends dared me to go and sing kareoke. I'm in mixed chorus at my school and I'm used to singing with other people, not by myself. Then they say that if I don't, they are going to video me dancing and put it on FaceBook.

I cannot dance at all. I look like a dying fish when I dance so I agree to do it. I'm in the chorus room and I write my name on the whiteboard so I can sing but I was the first person there so I don't have time to mentally prepare myself for singing in front of a bunch of my peers.

So now I'm standing in the front of the classroom with a microphone in hand. I'm sweating like crazy and I'm about to bail until I remember what my friends said they were going to do if I didn't sing. Then I'm on. I start singing the song Titanium and besides my two friends whooping randomly, it's totally silent the entire time I'm singing.

While I was singing, I was freaking out inside. Why was nobody else doing anything? Was I really that bad? Did I just open myself up to bullying? Finally the song ends. Everyone bursts out in applause. They are cheering for me, the quiet invisible girl. There are probably 50+ people in the chorus room and they were all clapping and cheering for me.

I felt giddy after that. Almost like someone gave me laughing gas. I never expected that kind of reaction. I hugged my friends so tightly and I'm just like "I can't believe I did that! I hate that you blackmailed me into doing it, but I can't believe I did that!"

It's now Sunday and I'm wondering if someone is going to mention me tomorrow.

oh that is good that you sang and everybody liked you! I sing to. Sometimes you have to get over your fears and do new things. I'm proud of you!

I bet you will at least get some high fives in the halls! Nice job! Remember that feeling... of pushing your boundaries, pushing past your fears. You'll never stop being afraid of things, never stop being nervous--it means that you're headed in the right direction! Also performance endorphins (that rush of happiness) are THE BEST! You are clearly a natural performer!
