I CAUGHT A FISH!
Sat. night, 8-9-08: It was sort of a wet, grey day today but we went on the houseboat as planned. It is still so flooded, Mark (he is in the photo of Scott in the garage as well as the farmers in a Halloween photo) had to come pick us up in a little boat because you can't drive to the dock. It was fun, I have to admit. We hung out at the dock through lunch time and fished. I caught a fish! I was so excited! It was a fairly large Crappie and the 1st catch of the day. I didn't catch anymore. Adam, however, was reeling in large perch left and right. That was so not fair!Later, many of Scott's other friends arrived. It was so good to see them and they are all so sweet to me. A couple of the Mom's were there, too. I will post photos later. We shared many memories of Scott. The weekend before he died he stayed on that boat. It was not a good weekend for him, though, and we did not talk about that.Mark had a slide show on his BIG computer screen. So many of the photos were of Scott. I thought that was very cool. He and Scott had been good friends since Kindergarten. We went out on the lake and cooked dinner out while we were riding around...h-burgers, h-dogs, & brats. YUM!I didn't get in the water because it was sprinkling quite a bit and I really don't like to swim in the middle of the lake. I am more of a lake swimming area/beach kind of gal. I like to touch bottom. But, many of our group did take the plunge. It was fun to watch them and I continued to mess with my fishing pole.I am tired, though. I have been very busy and miss my alone time. I will be home tomorrow but Mon. & Wed., next week, I have plans. It is not long before I have to go back to work! I am ready on one hand. On the other...not so much. In any case, I really want to just putz around my house, by myself, for at least a few days before I go back to work.I think my next journal I will write about Scott...memories I have and memories from his friends. I really want to start thinking of all the good things in his life, not the shortness of it. He was such a neat kid/young man! Even with all his troubles, and they were many, he stayed true to his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, an eye for the ladies (& they for him), an empathy for the underdog, and was onery in the best sense.I will, while I am thinking of it, will share a memory of him and Mark......Scott went to visit Mark at his college in Kirkwood, MO. He was nervous and told Mark "What am I going to talk to the girls about? They are in school and I am not." So, he was there and they were at a party. Mark intoduced him and Scott started saying, "Yea, I am a psychology major...blah, blah, blah... I go to MSU. It used to be SMS but the name has changed....blah, blah, blah..." He went on and on and had everyone convinced he was going to become a psychologist. All the girls, and guys, were so impressed with him because he was so impressive! LOL He became friends with several of them and later fessed up that he was not all he claimed to be. Of course Mark just played right along with him. It was, to me, so cute, and such harmless fun. Scott, of course, had such a good time just making it all up as he went along. I wish I could've seen him. All that charm...
