How Ironic
How ironic. So...last night when my younger 2 came over and we watched home movies, one of them was of me and my 4 daughters doing a home video to send to my parents for Christmas (1993). We talked to them and the girls played Christmas carols on the piano and we sang. At the end, I told them we wish they could have come to spend Christmas with us and that our door was always open (meaning COME VISIT US). DD28 said my parents always used money as an excuse. Let me see...what were there other "excuses"...there was no place to park the truck (my dad was a truck driver), if the dog wasn't welcome THEY weren't welcome. That was when we built our dream house and the ex no longer allowed animals in the house including our own pets, but my parents wouldn't come after that. (Another 2 year estrangement.) So, yes...this has been going on THAT long.
Speaking of...DD31 still hasn't contacted me about her visit and all I know is that she and DD23 are flying out on August 10th (which tells me the ex knows when she's coming since he probably bought DD23's ticket to Hawaii.) My grandson's mother told me that my XMIL had told HER the week before when they had lunch with her that I was picking DD31 up in Chicago! (5 hours away). Yes...DD31 and I had talked about having a girls' weekend in Chicago if she decided to fly into there instead of our smaller airport. I told her that sounded great and no problem. I'd BE there! Yea...that was on Mother's Day when we talked. I've heard nothing since and she stood me up one Sunday a month ago when we were supposed to Skype. I could tell by the look on DD23's face that SHE knows something I don't. So, I finally broke down and texted DD31 just now and told her I need to know what days I need to take off as I need to let my bosses know. I told her to call me this weekend, so we'll see.

I hope she calls you and you all do work out a fun Chicago weekend. That would be cool!
I am really sorry that your parents were like that. You would think they would at least want to stay to be with the grandkids! Not all families think the way we do as the ASS\'s family has done the same thing. They do nothing to see my kids and yet they used to blame us that it was due to us living in Illinois. Well, when we moved back and literally were just miles away from us they didnt see them either. So I can understand your frustration.
As for DD31...I am so sorry that she seems to have distanced herself as well. Its so strange how these kids can operate these days. I do hope she calls and you are able to arrange a meeting. It s the least she could do all thinks considered!
