Hospital Admission #5

Ok, just putting myself into perspective how big of a month or so this has been. So I was put into hospital from my GP, my health had deteriorated quite a lot and a large amount of weigh lost very quickly. I had to go up to the A&E where the GP had rung up a doctor there ahead to get me in quickly, where they put me into a bed immediately doing blood tests, ECG's, blood pressure, temperature, etc. I had a low body temperature, decreased blood pressure and pulse. Because I was quite dehydrated and my blood results and had electrolytes out of balance I needed to have glucose and Potassium and fluids inserted into me immediately through an IV cannula or I would be at a high risk of having a heart attack and I had an abnormal ECG and had to be sent to the Coronary Care Unit. I was on constant heart monitors and wires until later the next day, however my blood sugars would continuously drop right through the floor at high risk of having a seizure or falling into a coma, meaning I had to have lots of 50% glucose bags into me until later they would then continually to drop rapidly again. I had about 5 blankets on me as my temperature was quite low and I was just freezing, especially with the hospital air conditioning on.
Over the next 11 days I moved around the wards quite a bit. Coronary Care Unit 2 nights, Pediatric Ward 1 night, then into General Medical Unit swapping rooms a few times including one after I had left the hospital with no authority (however, I came back into the A&E voluntarily and admitted back into the same ward again).
After a few days of not being able to keep my blood sugars up substantially enough I was then started on a Naso-Gastric Tube machine which would continuously give me nutrition through from the bag, through the machine, into a tube that went from my nose into my stomach 24/7 no breaks at all. With this as I was at risk for my body to medical complications and risk of 'Refeeding Syndrome' I was not allowed to eat anything at all, and was only allowed to have an intake of 200mL of water every day, which was mostly consumed whilst trying to swallow all of my daily multivitamins, Thiamine and some other tablets to keep me going. This lasted up until the night before I was finally moved into an Adolescent Mental Health Unit at a different hospital an hour and a half away. The reason it stopped the night before was because I had taken the tube out yet again, though they did not replace it back in until I may have needed it the next day, where then they found I was moving.
I was in the adolescent unit from the Friday night over the weekend until the Tuesday where I was discharged. This admission was quite opposite to any other admission I had been into as I was not forced to eat at all, where they didn't give me any support or supervision, allowing me to have nothing to eat the entire time I was there, dropping more weight then before I was first admitted in medical. Anyway, they then let me go home into the community where I could have easily just gone right back down the path that had led me into this admission in the first place. However, thus far I have managed to avoid this and am trying to give things a go in the community again, and stay out of hospital to allow myself to study Nursing and Midwifery at university next week.
