Holding Steady?
13 weeks since the protective custody shuffle. About 6 weeks since the double funeral for my son and his mysterious wife. The time warp feel of all this is such that none of us know whether to put "only" or "already" in front of the notes on time passage. All this would probably still feel fragile, even without the mysteries of the lawyer attacks and adult manipulations of the children from the other grandparent house. With those legal manuevers still casting the shadow of doubt over the longevity of our current efforts to find the new normal, our morning and evening routines are beginning to *feel* routine. Big Bro's anger bursts are softening. Big Sis's panic attacks are smoothing. Little Sis is conquering the higher art of walking. Last night at the third swimming lesson for all three siblings, her enthusiasm for the newly familiar event carried her consecutive steps from the threesies and foursies here at the farm into the teens and twenties. Pretty soon the lifeguard will be nagging her about not running on the slick surfaces around the pool. The deep slumber in this morning's bewitching hour speaks of their satisfaction with last night's swim lessons and sweet anticipation of tomorrow's lessons. The lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday. Monday is dance lessons for Big Sis. She adores being a "Tiny Dancer," as the dance academy calls their pre-school dance class.
Hubs has shared my feeling of a spiritual family reunion going on up here on the hill. He believes the entity which joined my own Big Bro during the finishing touches on the Honey Barn is his maternal grandfather, Taz. He was a devoted dairy farmer all his days on a farm not too far north of here. His dairy farm is now a garishly lit shopping mecca. The cotton farm of his paternal grandparents is now under airport runways not too far from the shiney new world league shopping mecca.
While mindfully saluting the psycho nag flags on the delusional aspects of my mental health herstory, the perceived family reunion seems to be morphing into a playful sidebar in the discussions of Mommy and Daddy with the children. Maybe. We see what grows.
For now, I believe we are holding steady at not worse. Just believing. . . Still praying my ABC's. We see what grows. . .

Sending warmest regards, glad to hear the children being...children after all that's happened. You got the ABC's down. so ill pray for DEF's
Holding steady is a great accomplishment, arfie. Prayers holding steady for you now, too.
Thanks guys. So far so good this morning. A prairie fog has settled over the south plains. Get me nostalgicating for the rivers in the diffs between a river fog and a prairie fog. Most rivers greet the dawn with fog, fresh and clean, from its course in the depths of its cradle valley. A prairie fog gets muddy with the ever-present prairie dust. The hacking coughs and sinus drainage of the prairie fog have been sounding since yesterday morning's fog and continue this morning. They are sounding especially ominous on baby sis, but no fever.
Big Bro got off to school, *as usual* with expectations that his willnae be the meanest cough in the local elementary schools today, but Hubs and I are still deliberating on whether to get the sisters to the pediatrician or continue plying our home remedies. I donae believe the pediatrician will be able to offer any more than reassurance, but reassurance counts, especially with the court yaddahs attached to the equation.
Have you ever thought about writing arfie, you really make words sing
Aw, shucks. . . I was writing proficiently before I overcame my speech handicap, King. I am far more comfortable reading and writing all of my languages than speaking and/or listening. I write so compulsively that my psych portfolio carries an official dx for "Hyper-graphia." I write compulsively but getting published is an entirely different skill set. I mostly believe that, in my own strictly personals, writing is too valuable a therapy tool to let it turn into work.
I agree holding steady is a massive accomplishment..... It's so nice to read the kids are enjoying and looking forward to their lessons.... When the wee one has her first recital it will make your heart smile
I agree with KIngsolomonā¦.. You are a wonderful writer Arf
Big hug and a blessing.....xo
May the smooth sailing continue and the smog lift. Hugs and prayers.
Hugs & much love Arfie!
sending hugs and peace and super support!
Arfie you are an inspiration in a thousand different ways but I'll take you up on being more regular at journal writing I think you have hit on a powerful salve for the soul and all those little thoughts traveling around with no place to end up...I'm stunned over and over again that you keep going....
Yea, the math don't quite add up on how I keep going. . . Just getting up and doing what needs done?
