Hippo therapy (horseback riding)
I went for my first session today. I almost cancelled this morning - it was shot night last night - but I had a stern talk with myself and got dressed and out the door. Now, I haven't been driving much since my relaspes this summer, hubby was at work and my two best friends (that usually excersie w/me) are out of town - sooooo I drove. It's ten miles from my house to the barn, BUT I got detoured by an Ironman competition. Streets were blocked off, couldn't turn right or left - I ended up more than 20 miles from home in an area I don't know. somehow, I found my way back to area I should have been in and found the barn!!!The people were so nice and compassionate - it was wonderful. I amazed myself and the instructor when I threw my leg over the horse - no problem......I rode a lot 20+ years ago, but not lately. With my balance and mobility issues, I never expected that! The horse was so patient and I rode for about 40 minutes w/the instructor, a lead and 2 side handlers (so I wouldn't fall w/balance issues). I was in tears when it was over....I felt absolutely fantastic!!!!It was a beautiful day, in the low 70's, clear and breezy..... I can't wait to ride again. It will be in 2 wks tho, since I will be in Orlando next week for the MS Day of Discovery!!!I'll be sore as anything tomorrow, but it's worth it!! It's been a beautiful day and I am very blessed.cyndi**I didn't post til now cuz I got home and crashed out!!!***here's the link if you want to find one near you -http://www.narha.org/Centers/center_state_search.asp sunday update - I am soooo sore, but it's good. i really feel it in my back and core, but i can tell I will be able to rebuild some strength in these areas. Taking it very easy today and resting. there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's NOT a train coming to run me down!!!!
