Heard something this week...

Two ramblings in a row. Don't know what's happening to me.
I heard a co-worker mention that someone made a comment about me being on Paxil for so long. (Currently I am not taking it.) I can't believe that there are people that still do not have a clue about mental illnesses.
Mental illnesses like panic, anxiety, depression, OCD, bi-polar, come from an imbalance of hormones. There is nothing we did to make this happen. It's not about being gloomy or sad. It's not about being frustrated, and not able to cope with life. It is a DISEASE!
For those who suffer from panic like me, these attacks are very debilitating. My symptoms are cold sweat, shortness of breath, tingling sensations in the flesh, dry mouth, feeling like death is very close. There were many times I had to call my parents to get me when I was on the road, and felt that it was unsafe for me to continue driving.
Paxil took these attacks away. At least, they were much less frequent and much less severe. I will discuss going back on the medication when I see my psychiatrist again. Don't get me wrong. Some people can be treated without medication. Maybe for a while I may not need them either. I am just very glad I have that option.
I really wish we could do more to spread the word. When you have these diseases, with proper treatment, you can live a normal life. I just want people to understand that it is not as easy as they might think.
Well, I think I said it all. I hope that my friends here that suffer from these conditions have friends and family that understands. If not, I am always here to listen.
HUGS to all.
Rosa

You are an amazing woman, I have seen how much you contribute here, and always in a positive, supportive way, some people are just ignorant, ignore them. You do not have to educate or change people\'s attitudes, continue living your life and know that others respect and admire you. Good grief, there is no shame in taking paxil or any other medication that helps us lead healthier lives. Big hugs to you.

As someone who suffered from mental illness all my life (I\'m 66 now) at a time when it was considered a character flaw, a weakness, I can relate. I\'m glad Paxil works for you. I got relief from bipolar with Zyprexa and Cymbalta. Best wishes!

Thank you both for your kind words. Sometimes it helps to write it down. Sometimes it helps knowing I have friends here that understand and care.

Some people can be so judgmental and critical of others. I don\'t think anyone could possible understead the full depth of these disorders until one is in these shoes themselves.
Just try to let the remarks be like water on a duck\'s back and roll right off of you. Don\'t allow their ignorance of the disorder to make you feel bad.
Best Wishes!!
