have i told you about Daphne?

I don't remember for sure, but I don't think I've ever told you about Daphne.
Daphne is a doll........a real doll, honest she is.
She has a hand painted face, big eyes.......a simple brown dress, fuzzy short pigtails.......I bought her on impulse back in 2010 (my first year at home full time and it was a BIG adjustment).......at some point she ended up in my closet.  Sitting on the shelf behind a stack of washcloths.  I couldn't see her so there she sat.  On that shelf lonely and dejected.
I became a bad doll Mom.  Closeting dear little Daphne.  I never had a whole lot of experience with dolls growing up.  In truth i preferred action toys better and pretty much always wanted whatever my brothers had in their hands that they didn't want to share.
I saw Daphne the other day moving some things around......pulled her out and noticed she had a cut on the back of her little cloth head.  Oh Daphne, poor dear dolly.
I pulled out my tiny little sewing box.  It's all of 3" by 4".  Inside is a variety of thread colors, needles, a seam ripper and my pretty little gold scissors that are.....in the shape of a beautiful bird.  Found the scissors at a yard sale of all places........but I digress.
I sat there and quietly sewed stitches into darling little Daphne's head........and then thought maybe I can glam up her dress.  I don't have any bric a brac.....there's a word ya don't see every day.  Bric a brac......wow, so 1950's......60's......moving on.   I looked at my small supply of buttons and then said to heck with it......I pulled out two pretty rings and put them over her small cloth hands so she could have bracelets.  That's right, I'm telling you that I have finally embraced for a very small and limited  amount of time to play with a dolly.  After only 57 years, 3 months and ? number of days.  I, Ruth, being of sound mind and body played with a cloth doll named Daphne.
She is a very no nonsense miss.  She is not frilly, has no shoes, her dress is plain and she is not a looker, but there is something compelling about her big wide set solemn eyes. Whoever painted her features had the heart and soul of a primitive folk artist. She sat on my bed all day yesterday and then as I was straightening up the bed today I picked her up and stuck her in the tree branch in my bedroom.
Today was a hard day.  For lots of reasons all of them beginning with the word pain...............it was harder than usual - in a little while somehow I have to navigate the space between this cozy corner of the kitchen......through the living room and then make it to my bed.  i can't stand up straight and the pain is not gonna be friendly.......but I got Daphne waiting for me in the branch of that tree..........and that brings a soft silly smile to a very small tired face after a long day of spasms.
Why is there a tree branch in my bedroom?  Well I'd tell ya but then I'd have to kill ya.........it is 8 feet tall and shaped like a giant sling shot.  Daphne is sitting in the bottom of the Y of this big branch looking very comfy -  decked out in jewels.........sitting in her own private indoor tree house.
The whole thing is so incongruous & ridiculous I think everybody should have a doll like Daphne........she is recovering nicely from her head injury .....ten neat tiny stitches, she was very brave, didn't make a peep, never shed so much as one cotton tear.  She doesn't even seem to mind that both of her feet turn to the left.  Poor little misshapen wide eyed Daphne is a keeper........I can't wait until a member of my family spies her in that tree.
To be honest I don't think Daphne is too jazzed about the bling......she's more tom boy than girly girl anyway........I think she might like a fishing pole instead.  If I make her a fishing pole she would be the only doll in my house that has one. And maybe I could sew a fish on the end of her line and see how high Annie & Rio can jump for a dangling wee fish.
See you can have crazy fun at home......I am making the Groucho Marx face, pretending that I have big bushy Groucho eyebrows wiggling up and down like a mad hatter.
Now I am officially signing off........I hope you don't think me mad, just enjoying a little nonsense after a tough day.  Daphne is quite a girl.......if she starts catching fish I'll let ya know.........but first I gotta make her a pole.......nitie nite.  ain't foolishness alright?  I can be a growed up person all the time, but how often can i be a full on knucklehead?
love ya,
silly wonky bird girl in the green leafy north Georgia woods.

I love my visual of Daphne in that tree branch in your room! Good on you for finding her and restoring her to some sort of...normalcy!! Stictchin up her head and all! You\'re a wonderful doll mama!! Poor Daphne was just lost for a while, but now mama has found her and blinged her up with....stuff! WONDERFUL!

So sorry your pain is niggling at you so!! I\'m so glad you found Daphne...waiting for you in that tree branch in your room! (I did for a moment question your \"being of sound mind\" thingy) LOL........I think she will be a comfort to you. She\'s been around a long time......she does need an intoduction to Annie and Rio!! They\'ll be a trio!!

I wish I knew how to describe this pain. It feels as though all the soft tissue, all the tendons, all the joints......my very skin has all been drawn up, shortened & tightened. After sleeping for hours, I woke up, my legs were crossed (Indian style, yeah, i hear ya, i don\'t know why) --- it took considerable effort to uncross them. Every body part was groaning with the effort. Having a brain inside a petrified body is not a great combo. So stiff and taut. I finally managed to slowly unfurl and tentatively stretch. Muscle spasms in my feet and they kept heading up the trunk of the tree......sat so still, finally realized the animals were prowling anxiously next to me. The pain was very high. I knew I had to get in the shower stat. I haven\'t ever taken a shower for that long a time in all of my life. EVER. I let that water hit as hot as I could stand it and then turned it down a few notches and sat there trying to come down from the scary thoughts running round in brain central. Came in here for fresh water, yogurt, a banana........ice packs and to feed the kitties. I\'m making moaning groaning noises with every step.

I didn\'t realize it was this bad til I talked to a good friend yesterday...........my friend knew immediately......I had put the phone down for a minute to finish something. When I picked up the phone she said she heard the pain in my voice.

When it\'s like this I don\'t hear it (the small howls)..............having someone hear how bad it is ......is humbling, hard, comforting and tough. As I continue to age am I gonna curl up and become a tightly clenched ball of immobility? Will my mind be trapped inside......how long will I be able to .......able to anything, able to do the everything that is my life as I know it now.

I have to short circuit this kind of thinking.......fear likes to circle, corner and trap the spirit. Fear comes closer and closer.....that is not a happy place. Time to seek something lighthearted and then take a nap.

Otherwise the fearful felicity spirit might think she gets to be in charge - right now we need the voice of reason. steady on captain.......God has the wheel.............rest in the knowledge that He will help you............through uncharted rough seas.

xoxoxo

please Lord, help me with this. I don\'t know if I should stay in bed........it feels like a bad fibromyalgia arthritis combo. Having spasms in my legs, tummy, abdomen, lower back, upper back, in my neck................not simultaneously.

Ever watch a long string of dominoes? Push the first one and watch them all fall in one long well choreographed dance line? that is what is happening. this reminds me of how i felt two days after my bad car accident years ago. this ain\'t right......it can only get better. Lord help me do this........help me not to cry, help me be brave.

Maybe the story of Daphne could be formatted for small children in hospital.......maybe she is the seed of a story. Maybe..........she could comfort others........maybe.

Honey...i do understand the pain....having been diaged with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia.... it\'s just not something ppl always get.... try to explain having a baby to a man.... lol.
I think Daphne sounds amazing....a tomboy enjoying her time in a tree... on a spring day....skipping school... going to the corner frog store for penny candy and a comic book.... I think she begins in your tree for now.... bringing u moments of youthful h joy.... love n hugs.... u know...i miss being so carefree as a kid. I loved digging in the dirt when i was a kid....so the other day i sat out with the dogs a made a wee little d dirt village out of sticks and twigs and bricks.... just like when i was 8....i enjoyed myself. I need an adult sandbox.
