Happy New Year's Eve!
It's after 11pm here, and I'm closing out the year feeling good. My stomach is upset, but I don't mind too much. I just got up from a nap so I could be awake at midnight. After midnight I'm going to take my pills and go to sleep for real. 2011 has been a great year for me. I went to the hospital 3 times, which is more than any other year before, but my disability has paid for it and I don't have to worry about big bills. I got approved for disability and Geo and I are stable together. Geo and I had a rough patch when I wasn't getting any money waiting for the disability to come through, but we got through it and are stronger for it. Overall, we are in a better position this year than we were last year, and it's all about improvements, isn't it?
This past year I got serious about losing weight, and it's shown. I've lost about 25 pounds this year since May when I started my journey with Spark People. I walked my first 5k since high school and can walk 2.5 miles easily now. I'm going to be walking more in 2012 than in 2011, and I'm going to go for farther distances than this year. I have a goal set to be under 200 pounds by the end of May, and we will see how I do with that. I'm not losing as fast as I should be for that goal, but even if I don't make my goal, I still will have lost some weight and that's good. My New Year's Resolution is to eat slower and walk faster. Between the two of those, I should be setting myself up for some good weight loss. I need to eat slower and savor my food since I normally inhale my food, and walking faster since I know I can do it. When I was at my mom's I knew I wasn't walking at my full speed, but since I didn't have my MP3 player I couldn't keep up a fast pace. I want to be able to walk faster without my MP3 player by speeding up how fast I walk with it on.
I'm thinking about setting a goal to be able to do a 10k by the end of next year. I can do that by keeping up with my walking on weekends and upping my distance each time. That's how I trained for the 5k. That or to be able to jog a 5k. I'm not sure which one I'm going to decide to do. I have a whole year to figure it out. Either way, with me walking faster I should be able to do one or both of those things. I have my coworkers who are walking together, and I want to be able to join them. They walk about 6 miles when they go out, and so that's about a 10k. They do it in 2 hours, which I would do in about 3 at my current walking speed. I've gotten a bit faster, which is good, so I just need to step it up a bit more. I know I can do it!
Geo and I had a good year together. He's helped me become more independent, and hopefully my weight loss will spur him on to his own weight loss. I asked him if he had any New Year's resolutions and he said no. Well, he said to become rich and famous, but he was joking about that. With his mom's help, we made it through the hard process of me going on disability. We still owe her money, but I'm just glad that we had someone there for us. It's nice to know we had someone to lean on in times of trouble. I know my stepdad sent us some money, too, but nowhere near what Geo's mom did. I have to send her a thank you note for the year. I can use my new stationary set that my aunt got me for Christmas. I also got some shirts from Geo's dad and stepmother, and peppermint bark from my friend Andrea. I got good gifts this year, and I'm very happy with them.
Food today was good... I went over my calories a bit, but we went to Taco Bell and that's what pushed me over. Geo's dad is letting us borrow the car until Tuesday when he has to go back to work. I'm going to try and avoid fast food tomorrow and make soup for dinner instead. I think I might be getting sick... my throat is sore and it's hard for me to swallow. That means I should make my chicken soup for dinner tomorrow. I was thinking of getting some biscuits at the store and making chicken and dumpling soup. It's something that I've been wanting to try. I know that at least one store is going to be open tomorrow. Stress today was low... I don't remember being stressed over anything. Sleep last night was good... I got about 12 hours and felt good. I took a nap from 9pm to 11pm tonight so I could be up for midnight and see in the new year. Now I just have to be able to fall asleep after midnight. I should be good. I'm still a bit tired. Mood today was good, and I just hope that this next year will bring me even more joy than 2011 did!
