Hang Out with Heather
Today I went to go see Joyful Noise with my friend Heather. It was a good movie and we had a good time. We were dancing in our seats with the music. It's about dueling gospel choir women, their children and the choir. It was a lot of fun... the theater was almost empty, so we didn't feel bad acting crazy in our seats. I'm sure we got a lot of odd looks from the 3 other people there, but we didn't care. I like doing crazy stuff like chair dancing to choir music in a movie theater. It was really upbeat music, so it was fun. The music was good, the singing was awesome and the story was good. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I didn't know that the singing would be as good as it was, but I guess I should have expected it from a movie. It has Dolly Parton and Queen Latifa as the two main women, and I like both of their music. I liked Queen Latifa in Chicago as well.
After the movie, we went to a taco truck and Heather got a taco and I got a champurrado. I knew my spell checker was going to go crazy with that word lol. It's a Mexican hot chocolate thickened with corn starch to make it creamy. It's awesome, but it's good only in small doses. It's really rich, that's why. But it's very yummy, and so I'm glad I got one while I was here. The last time I had one was when I was in Mexico about 8 years ago. They taste just like I remember- chocolate, cinnamon, and super creamy. Yum! I know it's going to make me go over my calories for today, but that's okay I guess. I went for my walk today, so that makes up part of it. I don't know if the path I walked today was the easy way or the hard way- I walked more downhill, but I walked the super steep uphill as well. The streets here are so steep that you feel like you can reach out straight and touch the street in front of you. I don't know if that makes sense, but it does to me.
Other than that today I took it easy. I slept pretty good last night, but I was tired most of the day and wanted more sleep. I actually slept in until 11am here, which is late for me. I've been waking up at 9:30 or so almost every day. I can take naps, but other than today I can't seem to sleep later than that. Tomorrow I need to wake up around 10 or so, so I can't sleep in late like I did today. We are going to meet my brother for lunch at his work and then go down to the Santa Monica Pier. I haven't been there in years, and I wanted to see how much it's changed. You see it in movies every now and then when there's a boardwalk scene with a Ferris wheel on it. There's actually other rides as well, as well as an arcade and people selling all sorts of stuff down the boardwalk and pier. I'll save more talk of the pier for tomorrow.
My mood today was great again. I had so much fun at the movie with Heather, and I'm glad I choose that movie. I knew she would like it, and it's the kind of thing that's good to watch on a girls night out. She laughed, she cried, she got angry, she had the full range of emotions. I didn't go that far, but I still liked it. I had fun on my walk... I was trying to walk as fast as high school kids and got my butt kicked in my imaginary race. I do that with people sometimes... when they pass me I try and keep up with them, but I always seem to fall behind and get my butt kicked. I know one day I will be able to keep up with people, just not yet. I need to get into better shape. What helps me keep up is copying their walking pattern, but that's just something I'm learning how to do. It's hard trying to keep up with little young kids and their fast walking. I'm sure if they knew I was trying to beat them they would walk faster since they can, but they are just walking home from school.
Food today was bad since I had the champurrado, but other than that I did good. I had oatmeal with cashews for breakfast, a turkey and smoked Gouda sandwich for lunch, and soup for dinner. I've been eating a ton of soup since I've been here, but I like soup. Today it was creamy chicken and wild rice soup from Progresso, which I would recommend. I've also been eating tomato soup with some left over ground beef in it, which is also yummy. Stress today was low.. my stepdad went over to work at my brother's house tearing down a fence that was destroyed in a bad windstorm they had here, and I felt a bit guilty for not helping. Sleep last night was good... I had a crazy dream but I don't remember it anymore, and my mood was great!
