hair cuts can be H - E - DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS and then again........

find your happy place.
despite everything.  seriously.  tears come and tears go, but you remain......you deserve protection/comfort/safety from bumps and bruises.  we all know life is not gonna be perfect........we love the beauty of the rose and know of it's thorns.
life is life............i met a neanderthal named frank at a styling salon.  i had to wait several hours to see this "master stylist".  which is hard for me, since it was at a big big big mall and i have to count my steps.
just like you........we all count our steps so we can budget our energy wisely.
see a few weeks ago i got my hair cut by Lisa......i had sent her a picture of the cut i wanted and when we got done my hair looked exactly the same as the last time she cut it, cept this time she put in a few mild layers on each side of my silly wobbly old head.
frustrating.  very frustrating.  we ladies love hair happiness.  we just do.  well most of us, there is a character in a long running lady private detective novel series......can't think of the author, but the character is named Kinsey Milhone.  Kinsey does private detective work in the city I used to live in when I lived on the west coast.  In the book the city has been renamed, but it's my former haunt and that alone pushed me over the love this author cliff.........  the author wrote the series titling each one with a letter from the alphabet.  the first one was "A is for Alibi".......for example.  but about hair and Kinsey.
Kinsey Milhone is a no nonsense woman, she has one little black dress that can't be killed, crushed or wrinkled and she keeps it in her car most of the time.  for the sudden need to wear a dadblamed stupid dress......she is a runner, she likes small cozy spaces.......she tries not to get killed and she cuts her own hair with a pair of scissors usually used for cutting nose hair in men.  .........so kinsey is a good fictional example at least.........and kinsey has a wonderful friend, her landlord.  he is a great cook, in his 80's and they hang out at this hungarian restaurant where the food is to be consumed at your own peril.......and yet they go there because that is what they do ........and there is a bit of a romance between the bad cook, Rosy and the elegant landlord?  i love stories.......do you?
so back to HAIRGATE 2015...as if!  gotta laugh, ya g o t t a !!!!
i decide to get my hair cut and this time i will go to their sister salon in the big bad mall.  i can't see the master stylist until four pm, so i reluctantly set off in search of food and think get  your walk in ya lazy old duffer..........i ask a man waiting on a bench how far it is to the food court and he says you will be there in 5 or 6 minutes......and i said i'll probably make it in ten to fifteen.......he says "nah, you can do it........have a little faith!"  so with a little faith i go down the long wide people filled hallway and wish i had wings.  the food is good.  it's some sort of chicken dipped in a light honey flavored batter.......i go old school and get mashed potatoes and carrots.  these carrots are insanely huge.  i wonder where they get these dinosaur sized carrots and ask the check out guy........as i pay.  he shakes his head and says nothing.  closely guarded secret?  not sure......the interior core of these carrot slices are two inches across, so each carrot slice is three inches wide............never in all my born days have i encountered crazily large carrots......have you?
moving on, i people watch.......a little one loses her baby black suede ugg boot and thinks it's great.....she finally got one foot free of stupidold shoes.........her mom is juggling three little ones........looks harried and tried to scoop up the boot, hang on to the toddler, her purse and the baby stroller.........bless her mommy heart.  i remember those days......the days when you wonder why parents don't come with four arms and four legs to do all they have to do...
on the walk back i get stopped by a very handsome young man harking wares at a kiosk.  he asks me my name, he holds my hand and the next thing i know he is putting dead sea salt on my hands that have 72 minerals .....no more, no less (this is me being a little bit sarcastic).......that will transform my life.  these products.....for after the hand holding and now having my hands personally washed and tenderly dried by a handsome young man i discover that i am not indifferent to male attention.........it is nice.  something i tend to forget about on my journey...........he has gorgeous eyes, a french accent and is from Israel.......which I find confusing.  I'm not sure what an Israeli accent sounds like but not french i should think........
so now i smell like soft fragrant vanilla, my skin is glowing and so are my eyes.......i mention that i have issues with rosacea, so now i am handed off to the second gentleman who has "just the thing".......they are trying to quickly close sales in a seductive leisurely way and it's very transparent to me how they work it.  they put the product on you, then hand it to you, then escort you to their checkout drawer, offer  you a big savings which is still 50% higher than i would ever pay for "miracle" products ever.......somehow they think at this point you are lulled into the submissive act of handing over credit cards for a big bag of lady skin care treats.......but i say no easy as pie. and think they are a couple of rookies.......i do not tell them that i use to close deals on carpet for 72 floors of dallas skyscrapers at a time........and i go off humming and smelling fine.  i am not immune to their jobs or their charms, but my goodness...........i'd have to live in a box made of paper bags if i bought every miracle product out there....and i don't wanna.........nobody does.
i get back to the salon right on time, the host gets me a glass of water and leads me to a chair.  he can see that i am worn out. he is a kind person who sees people and that is a great quality to have.  then i meet the neanderthal.  this man is named Frank......which is neither here nor there......but Frank is a very muscle bound man........like Arnold Schartzenegger muscles.  His shoulders are mighty and broad.......he has a shaved head and that after five facial hair look that a lot of stars have.  He looks tough and he seems tough.  gulp.........he asks me what i want and i (jokingly as an ice breaker) say "a miracle"........he launches into a diatribe about how my hair is the texture that it is and he cannot create miracles.  he can cut it and make it look great, but he thinks that i should let it grow out to give it more weight thus making it less curly and more wavy and that is all he can really do cause miracles are not something he can do.
wait......what? is he telling me my hair is so awful that he cannot tame it, create a fabulous cut?  what the hey.......i ask him how long he has been a "master stylist"  he says 15 years.......so i say in all this time you have not learned people skills?  i am flabbergasted.....and tell him that too.  my hair is frizzy thanks to the extremely high humidity, but here's the deal.....we live in an age of serums and oils and i have been gifted with hair cutting miracles for EVER!  he suggests another stylist and i say if you have the most experience of anyone on your team why would i go with a less skilled stylist .......based on the idea that you are the best this salon has to offer?  i tell him i need to leave, and that i am very frustrated after having waited hours to get the cut at the mall and (at this point i am hurting/angry and ......) yes to my utter horror i burst into tears.  cause i am a big old baby.
the front door guy sees my face and says what is wrong and i say how could you send me to HIM as though this guy is a one eyed cyclops or something hell bent on my destruction......and race out the door.....ok, not race.......it's hard to make a dramatic exit when you move like turtle molasses.  but i tried anyway.............and just so you know the master stylist costs more than double what i usually pay for a cut, so this was a stressful budgetary decision to make in the first place.
i take pain meds and drive towards home...........and remember that i need something from walmart.......so in i go.  there is a salon inside, i have never gone in or even thought to get a cut from them......but i did on this day. the lady is named Katrina, she is so nice.  i described what i wanted and then was able to show her pictures from those big hair styling books.  i didn't know it but i was describing an A Line Bob.......but with bangs.  So like Victoria Beckham but again with long-ish bangs.  And she did a beautiful job.........I was so happy that i hugged her and enjoyed that thing where you shake your head like a young colt......feeling light and free and pretty!  and then i told her about what happened to me earlier...........she said that if i was ever to ill to come in she might be able to arrange coming to me to do my hair.......and so i found myself dissolving into tears for a second time .........
the first time for feeling less than, rejected by and not helped.....and now for getting a superior cut for a great bargain price which including tip less than half of the dreaded "master stylist giant".  it ended well and i was worn out............bet after reading all this you are too.
hugs, love, care and prayers to you this day.  your exhausted spunky now pony tail less sparrow in the south.
p.s. in fairness, the manager of the salon called and offered me a free appointment with another master stylist, i turned her down.........then she offered me a free blowout with any of their stylists.  i turned it down......so next she offered me a free blow out from yet another salon (in the same mall with a different nameJ and i complement her for going many extra miles to show me that they have a lot of great and capable people and for being professional enough to try to win back my business.....but i tell her that i have now cried leaving your salon. i don't have to go places that make me cry.......and so i will not but thank you anyway.........she was very nice, but ..........since there is a "but, in my thinking" i will not go back.  thank goodness for CHOICES....... !

Pretty boring.Blond and a shoulder length bob cut.I have been desiring curls lately but I can\'t see myself putting hair rollers in.Bye love Di xo

We have one of those dead sea mineral products stalls in the Cairns Central Shopping Centre.I went through the same process as you did.The guy sounded French also.I also allowed myself a little pamper and didn\'t spend either. I\'m not an easy person to sell to.The guy was irritated when I didn\'t buy and mumbled something. xo

Wow, I am so proud of you for walking out, good for you. I am sorry it made you cry, but believe me, you were being very strong. I don\'t think I would have been strong enough to leave, but I don\'t know, I am different now than I used to be, I think it can come with age. I can\'t believe you found a hairdresser that can come to you, that is just wonderful. My hair is really long & not because I don\'t have a hairdresser, but because I never feel up to getting ready & going to get my hair done. It is a very easy style, shoulder length & layered so with my natural curls, it is wavy & looks styled without me doing anything to it. I have let it grow & now it is down almost to my waist. I know my hair grows fast, but even I know I should have done something long before now. I love my hair when it is styled, even when I am laying at home I feel good about my hair, ready for company.

I totally enjoyed your journal & look forward to your next one. Thank you for accepting my friend request. Many hugs, Denise
