Good thoughts and good practices

I'm here at work. Got a great message from my brother and my sister, separately, this morning.

They're both living in Europe now, in different places. I am grateful for their love and support. I am excited for them too, that life has given them such fruits that allows them to live their dreams like that. It's kind of a bittersweet thing on a level as I consider myself separate and dealing with life here on my own but I feel loved by them.
The saving grace is for me to change my perspective. To frame my sights from their grand adventures to doing in life what nurtures and develops my life in the way that I can. I'm so realizing more and more that altering or changing our framing of how we see ourselves in life (to appreciating from macro or micro) can really help me be positive, productive, accepting and grateful for our lives. There really is so much in life to be grateful for.
I am thankful.

Good grateful morning, Mark! Happy to hear that you started the day with such positive messages! and feeling loved. I hear ya on the comparison front. My siblings are all successful and living very productive, exciting, non-bipolar lives. Through practice, I've learned to try and stop the not-very-life-affirming negative comparison talk when it rears its ugly head. I try to remember, we're our your own unique individuals, and everybody is doing the best that they can with what they have and where they are in life. Have a wonderful day!

I'm glad to hear that you received positive messages from your brother and sister this morning! Reading your post, I'm reminded of something Theodore Roosevelt once said: "Comparison is the thief of joy." I've found that to be true. We can always look around and see someone who appears to be "better" than we are. Certainly, your brother and sister seem to be doing well, but they likely have struggles of their own, which may/may not be known to you.

Comparisons are always unfair. We tend to compare the worst we know about ourselves to the best we presume of others. Not only does doing that make us miserable, but it wastes time that we could be using to live full lives of our own. As gr8 said, we are all unique individuals. Your gifts, talents, and contributions (which are many) simply cannot be compared to others.

Hope you have a great day! Hugs.
