Goal Change
Years ago I saw this program on real age. The author explained that there was a physical age--the number of years you've lived, and a real age--the age you are based on the condition of your body. The real age could be controled by losing weight, physical activity, etc. So, back in March I joined a health club with the intent of losing weight. I remember driving there listening to talk radio, the only station I listened to since losing my husband. I felt old and tired, slowly walking up to the door as the young breezed by me. I wasn't jealous. I felt that I'd had my turn at youth and now it was someone elses turn. Back then I shopped in plus sized stores and ate plenty of deserts and required medication. Flash forward six months and I am renewed.
I stopped listening to all talk radio. Now the artists I listen to on the radio have names like PitBull, Usher, and Rhianna. I move faster too, easily breezing through a Zumba class with women more than thirty years younger. My hair is in better condition, no longer brittle. I eat mostly Mediterranean fair with ocassional junk thrown in. And I'm taking less medication with the hopes of being completely off them in the near future. In short, I'm feeling like I did twenty years ago.
And that's why I'm changing my goal. I'm not interested in just losing weight. I want to feel good. I want to feel young and vibrant. I'm on my way!
