gardening in the rain.....
i was lying there watching an episode of forensic files, there was a moment so heinous i covered my eyes, regrouped and hit the off button. rose immediately and took a shower. do not think about such things. dwell in a place that cleanses the mind. very philosophical, but i like forensic files, feel that i've learned a lot about the importance of forensic files and DNA. my oldest brother John got his PHD in biochemistry, his dissertation was on DNA.
i was just entering high school when he got his BIG DEGREE as our Dad called it at Georgetown University. remember reading his dissertation sort of, for although i am an avid reader, the sheer deluge of science made my head swim. i had no idea how much DNA would influence our world over the next several decades since.
after the shower i put on gardening clothes......old stretchy black capris, a comfy pink & black t......tall gardening boots......grabbed a bucket and my trusty little shovel........did i mention it was RAINING? it's not bad at all beneath the giant oaks. a canopy of trees sheltering me as i played in the dirt. it was lovely.........so fresh, so clean.......close your eyes and just listen. peace can be found in moments like this.
i put all the pretty little rocks in a bucket and put them in a different garden bed. then i moved the big cool arty tree limb to another bed........dug up the lost plants, a moment of silence for the three blueberry bushes that passed please.....
onto the surviving blueberry bush....i carried him up the incline and marveled at the day. rain on freshly washed hair is nice.......i washed off my tools, my boots......me and went on with my project. fresh dirt mixed with manure into a big green pot.....added the blueberry bush, surrounded him with this good soil and relocated him to the back patio........gave him a big drink of water from the hose. just then my hose sprung a leak. a major leak. what are the odds that both of my hoses, not of the same design, would both spring leaks so closely together? my odds i suppose. i have a roll of duck tape, like duct tape but not called that......waiting on the table to repair the hoses in dry weather.
the little bush looks sturdy, i hope putting him in the plant hospital patio wing will help him along. bless his little green growing heart......
while i was outside i promised that i would take the time to twirl......and forgot. so i went back out and kept my word. twirled round slowly to the left three times with my arms outstretched........then twirled round to the right and felt dizzy. some childhood pleasures work better in the mind and memory than in a wonky body, but still i felt satisfied having kept my word. a slower pace twirl is still lovely......enhanced by rain. ahhhhhh.
next up? calling AT&T to ask why my bill increased by ten bucks. makes no sense. after that? plan to fry some bacon to make mom's version of baked beans. this goes well with the homemade potato salad i made a few days ago. just a one can batch, i uses van camp's pork n' beans, an iowa holdover, what mom did.......add brown sugar, a dash of ketchup, a spurt of mustard.....crumbled bacon, simmer a bit on low. home......mom. happy.
sam & i got together yesterday. a good day......we saw Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell No Tales in 3 D. 3D makes me a bit dizzy, why is that? the movie was much better than the reviews. when will i learn not to read reviews by movie reviewers? fans tell a much happier tale.......it was good rolicking fun.......aimed at boys who love the three stooges moments. why do i say that? sam & I share the same sense of humor most of the time and each time they did these moments we realized quickly on that we both said "so stupid" even while we laughed out loud......so the humor provided the right touch.......not sophisticated humor by any means, but lighthearted and stupidly funny........not a bad thing to enjoy! not bad at all.
after the movie we enjoyed an early dinner. i suggested that we check out a BBQ place walking distance from the mall. while i'm sure the food is great, the prices were GREAT too, so we opted to go back into the food court. we each got our standby favorite meals. Sam got sushi......two kinds. i asked him what it was as I always do, but other than the avodado i don't know what they were, a kind of tuna probably? my bad. i got a honey battered chicken with mashed potatoes and dinosaur carrots. i call them that because they are HUGE. where do these giant carrots grow? have you seen or had them anywhere? i also saw them in giant bags at the greek restaurant sara took me to awhile back......huh. hugontious orange carrots.
the rain is resting.......no sunshine today. yesterday it was intermittent rain and sunny skies.......nice temps. felt bad for the movie ticket taker.......she was heading on to a family bbq after and hoped for a rain free time.......i asked sam to think rain free thoughts for the young lady.......we walked out to the restaurant and the skies opened up at almost five pm. just as she was getting off......but when we finished eating the rain was almost stopped and shortly after blue sunny skies............so maybe she did get to enjoy some happy weather and good food with her loved ones.
i hope your memorial day served you something nice.......whether it was relaxing with some fun tv......something good to eat........sam & i want to make a plan to rent a pontoon boat on one of the off days this summer, see if derian and sara want to join in on the idea.......if you rent a pontoon on m-thursday the rates are just less than half the busy days. affordable for four people to split the fees. less than $50 per head. not bad for a day on the water.......the only thing i'm not sure of is whether or not i can get on and off the pontoon. i can certainly jump in the water, but if one has to climb aboard a ladder i could be in trouble. i have such weakness, especially in my left arm now, that i can barely lift my drink pitcher when it's full. pretty sad.......but there it is. i don't know why this is......just that it is. i was supposed to have PT for it, but then realized it would cost me $40 per time. at three sessions a week times 6 weeeks i just couldn't swing it. i have a big monthly payment on that dental bridge ongoing for two solid years. sads that these are the kinds of dilemmas we/i have now......harder choices. sam suggested that we could take the boat into a cove and or closer to shore to help me enjoy the day......he's such a thoughtful son. i'll do a little more research and see......i love the WATER.......love like a little fishy!
time to stop typing i suppose, it's good to spend time with you, break up the alone. i may wait on the baked beans, turn on some music and paint awhile. it's a five shelf dvd unit that was butt ugly so i'm painting it a pristine white....not sure where it will live just yet, but that's all part of the fun. the dvd holder i have is very pretty, a gift from sam many years ago. it's iron and wicker....dark iron with brown wicker shelves. it's slender, chest high with six shelves.....i've surpassed it how. even after donating rarely played cd's to Debbie......
just thinking out loud now.......not wanting to end this connection. call AT&T girl and get it over with.......i know when i'm procrastinating.......time to be bold and go on hold.......!!!!! who doesn't wanna put that off?
love you.........huggggggs!

My idea of what to do with a garden is to abandon a car in it. My garden is totally overgrown and I literally have done nothing about it. I'm glad you got something nice done in yours and I'm glad you got to see Sam. Love you.
I'm glad you had a nice day! I think I'm headed out of a dark period. Too soon to tell but today is pretty OK! And that is a huge improvement for me. Going to see the Guardians of the Galaxy with some friends on Thursday, I think. It's always good to see real people. Say hi to your kitties for me!
