Funny Awkward Moment
Last night I went to a BBQ at my girlfriend's who had invited me to help celebrate her husband's birthday. I am sure this will never happen again. At least I hope not! Time came when my girlfriend introduced everyone at the BBQ. Introducing me in front of about 20 people she said, "and this is Diane, who just lost her husband" Everyone gasped and I just about did you know what in my pants. I immediately knew what it was like to feel the attention of everyone eyes on me. I just smiled. What could I do? Thank God no one approached me to say they were sorry. As I do not know what I would have said or even try not to cry. I made eye contact with her son who gave me the message ,"I will kill her later". Haha! Later he did ask if I needed him and I let him know I am fine. Everytime I think of that moment I cannot help but laugh. Most people would think how could she!! But maybe she gave me a small gift, Because she has made me laugh and wait till I tell my son! He will you know what in his pants haha! Happy Mother's Day! Love, Diane

I understand the awkwardness of what you felt but believe she probably meant well (although misguided ). They just don\'t understand the last thing we want is to be the center of attention at this time. Sharon
Diane, happy Mather\'s Day to you too. Your story is funny. My awkward moment is a little different. In Hong Kong, nobody talked about death, I mean NOBODY. Recently, I went to see my dentist who also knew my wife well. He knew she has passed. But during my visit, each time I mentioned my wife (the things we did together etc), I heard silence. No response from him. Imagine that, each time her name was mentioned by me, the conversation stopped....every each time....But I don\'t really care. I keep talking about her as she is around. I guess they are starting being annoyed....I got less invitations these days. Well, life certainly changes. Hugs from Hong Kong

Good point and yes I have felt the eyes and whispers and the hesitation of people wondering if they should say anything or hug you or whatever. I think it was her being so blunt that made it so awkward. But all is well and like I said it gave me a laugh.
