FUNKY DAY!

January 16. 2010:  Ick!  That is how I feel!  The weather here is much warmer...we went through a week of BRUTAL cold.  But, the sky is so grey!  I am tired of winter and the added depression that seems to go with it. I am in the middle of a four day weekend.  I thought I would do so many things.  Happening?  Not so much.  I did clean the mirrors in my bedroom.  Okay....not that kind.  They were really yucky!  And, the glass on the pictures....ewww.  And, I am proofing my book.  I thought I was almost ready for the publisher....nope!  I think I will just re-type the WHOLE thing!  It will be easier than going back to correct certain pages! So depressed!  Craig and I seem to do NOTHING together.  We barely speak.  He spent the entire day in the garage and me in the house.  Finally, about nine this evening, he came in.  Still, not much speaking.  Out of the blue he tells me we should meet for dinner on Tuesday, his birthday, at Lambert's Restaurant.  I am really good with that.  It is the "Home of the Throwed Rolls" and a fun place to eat.  Plus, if it is your birthday, you get your meal for half price.  Anyway, I think he doesn't care anything about me and then he invites me to dinner.  I guess he is just going through his own journey. We do have a wedding, to go to, next Saturday.  I used to babysit the bride when she was just two.  That should be fun.  Her mom and I are pretty good friends.  And, her Aunt, from St. Louis, is someone I look forward to seeing. Now, I am going to tell you a really horrible story!  I have three cats.  They are outdoor cats.  I live in the country so they are not just pets but we NEED them.  I was cleaning my back door window and one of the cats caught a field mouse.  Okay...I am very good with that!  Catch them before they come into my home!  However, the cat played with it for ten to fifteen minutes.  It was horrible.  She just batted it around, then let it run away, only to catch it again.  Poor mouse!  I am surprised it didn't die of a heart attack.  I have never seen such a thing!

I hear you on the yucky weather! We have had the worst inversions ever in Utah and that brings foggy, dark days. On those days I light candles, turn on some more lights, put on the music and just try to find something that makes me feel lighter. You are writing a book! Wow, I would love to hear more about it and perhaps it is not your first one? In terms of your hubby... this can be such a lonely journey even when we have a partner. Each of us needing our alone time yet needing that time to connect too. I have begun going along with my husband to Home Depot (his home away from home) just so that we can ride together and share the same oxygen. I know that may sound simplistic yet it\'s a start. I hope you will enjoy your connecting on his birthday and perhaps let him know that you are missing him... Here\'s to a brighter day no matter what the weather is telling us and thank you for your insightful entry. I understand these feelings my friend. Take care and please share more about your writing! Hugs, Joanie

As my friend told me, you cannot lean on a broken stick.. you are both grieving the same loss so it hard to be there for the other one... love to you my friend...

Maybe a dinner Tuesday night you could \"begin\" to talk...I mean really talk....it could be a great beginning. Cat and mouse...I have seen that behavior many times...in is a natural instinct...forgive the cat. Love to you...Karen

My husband always tells me to let him grieve in his own way. He is a very private person anyway but he has been supportive of anything I need to do for myself or my daughter, grandkids, etc. He does not like to speak of it, once in a while he will call to let me know he is having a \"hard\" day, but he likes to throw himself into work. He also has begun the physical symptoms of not letting the crying out, with real bad acid reflux, headaches, etc. But I abide by his wishes and do not bring up the subject that our daughter died. I let him do his own thing. That is why I call my dream home a \"sad\" house now. We really do not talk much either. Even my Mary and I don\'t talk like we used to, I guess we are all in our own thoughts and memories of Suzie. That will pass in time too I guess. The cats and mice - its amazing how they want to show you their prize! And then look at you like you are crazy when you shout for them to take them away! One time my son, probably about 7, came home with a field mouse and wanted to know if he could keep it for a pet! Grey and dreary here too. I hate this time of year normally, but this year it is even harder not to get depressed. Hugs, Kay

I am with you on these winter days and gray skies......I am ready for Spring !! I am glad he asked you to go to dinner. Maybe since it is his birthday, let it just be a peaceful evening, but then maybe that will open up some communication for the following days. Men and women definitely grieve in different ways.....we went to a \"workshop\" meeting on this with compassionate friends......very interesting. Well......at least the cat kept the mouse from getting in the house......ick ! don\'t like mice either !!! I hope you enjoy dinner with your hubby and also have fun at the wedding ! Love, Kim

I am tired of the sunless days as well and ready for spring! If it isn\'t rain, it is snow. I don\'t have a hubby so no comments about that. I hope all works out well and you have a nice dinner. Hugs, B

Sure hope your dinner was great. Cats are extrodinarily nasty animals. They enjoy the fear the mouse exhibits, maybe that\'s why cats and people get along, neither as a group is that nice. Love and hugs Cathy

I\'m glad you\'re going out to dinner with your husband. Just remember, we truly are going through our own, and differerent journeys. Keep talking, keep communicating. Your marriage is worth it.

I have a mouse story too for you. Mark was gone on a business trip last week, and I had come downstairs to let the dogs out in the morning. It was kind of dark and I stepped on something coldish and wet with my bare foot. I turned on the light and there was a mouse head and next to it the mouse guts!!!! It was so disgusting!!!! I knew I had to pick it up and get rid of it, but could hardly bring myself to do it. I threw a paper towel over it and put one of Marks big work gloves on, picked it up and threw it outside. I can laugh about it now, but still cringe thinking about it too! Oh, the joys of living in the country. I hope you have/had a wonderful dinner and hope things are good. Love, Julia
