My Dearest Darling Darrell,
Today was red-letter. I actually left the house. Spent the day at Jeff's shop and, as usual, it was uplifting. If I could only learn the mechanics side of it, I would probably be there every day. (Nope! I forgot the cardinal rule of "How to Alienate Your Son-In-Law: Spend Every Day At His Place Of Work".) His customers and suppliers are all so nice. And, because I feel so good, not a word of being "a widow" was mentioned, and I wasn't treated like a leper. (I think I have discovered the secret of being accepted in the outside-the-house world: don't say the dreaded word and you're in.)
He was working on a 1965 Ford pickup - turquoise and white. Wow! That brought back memories. Jeff's comment was that it was a year older than he is. He fixed up the mechanical side of it and then threw in a complimentary wax job - had that baby looking brand new! He always approaches his jobs with such gusto - like a kid in the proverbial candy store.
We were wrong about thinking he and Mari were making a mistake by starting their own business. So far, they've actually made a profit - not bad for 1 1/2 months into it and considering they have beaten the odds of new businesses not making a profit for at least the first full year. Of course, Mari still works her 4 days at the salon and they have to share the care for and entertain Annabella. They both work so very hard. I know you're as proud of them as I am.
After I left there, I had to stop at Ralph's and get some groceries, since Mari's hosting a small reunion of some of her old classmates on Sunday and I'm invited. The guests are some of her closest high school girlfriends - ones that I helped "raise" (and am STILL feeding, since I've been elected to make a salad). I'm so excited to see them all after all these years. Every one of them has become successful, and I hope that all the long talks (and food) that Mom Terry had with each of them way back then has somehow been a part of their success. Anyway, looking forward to hugging all of my little chicks. I hope Mari hasn't put them on alert regarding the "W" word. THAT would put a bit of a damper on things...
Had a few downers this week, but today's jaunt helped in raising me up, once again. I'm ignoring the next storm that I know will come. Keep yourself and all the angels - heavenly and earthly ones - on alert, okay?
I love you, Honey, and still miss you like crazy,
Terry
