Forgetfulness
I feel like a dimwit...In one week..I couldn't find my home phone for hours...couldn't find my glasses...I already had them on....couldn't find my purse...had a procedure done by a dr...then I can't find the watch they took from me...After asking them to look for it and dumping out my purse...it was in my coat pocket...I felt stupid...I keep misplacing things almost everyday and then have to waste time searching...Not sure why I keep doing this...When my husband had surgery....he woke up and asked me for his dentures...I had the staff looking in the back rooms and the waiting rooms...he is rolling his eyes telling his brother I lost his teeth...Then my cousin remembered we put his stuff in our van...When he had all these appts...and meds...chemo...keeping track of his food..Taking notes at dr. visits....I had folders...calendars...medical treatments..chemo appts...I was on top of everything....I told people I was his wife. Slash...secretary...I filled out all his paperwork for almost two years...Now I am a airhead... My brain had a meltdown after his funeral...God help me.....

Be patient with yourself. Grieving is hard work and drains a lot of energy out of you. And when we have a spare moment, instead of recalling things we recall the sad memories. This is not unusual among us. I am a Space Cadet myself.
Also if you are afraid of forgetting the important things, you may want to be better prepared and more organized before you get to a place. Write down reminders for dates and time. Be more aware of where you put things. These are the things I can think of. Giving you a virtual hug.
mypenny,
I know how you feel because I'm going through the same lapses in memory that you are.
Like you I'll come across some misplaced object and wonder why I don't remember putting it there. My thoughts weren't in the here and now when I put the TV Guide in the refrigerator.
It's because we're being distracted by grief.
Grieving is a powerful emotional state and the Widow's fog we're in is a natural part of it.. Members here who have experienced it have posted that the fog will lift. Take heart.
Warm hugs,
Ellen
Thank you Ellen...it's the little things ...that add up.....I guess I am still in a fog...maybe trying to be strong and not keep focusing on his passing...is messing my thinking up.....I appreciate you sharing your lapses.....I manage my appts..and business matters ...of course I do write them down.....Thanks for the hugs ladies...
