Food monster part II - Keeping it real!
Round 1 highlights: There for a bit, I thought I was going down... but knock me around and piss me off... I come back a fightin' :) Round 1 goes to Becca! :) :) I sent this email to my NUT today... Time to fess up to her as well and hold myself accountable. ***************************************************************************** Subject: Confessions are good for the soul. Hello Erin, ***SIGH*** Time to confess.... Ever since I saw you last, and my papers went to insurance for approval (and things got real), I turned into a demon! :) The preop food monster grabbed me and would not let go! I have not made wise choices over the last week. I don't dare go near the scale.... I am NOT going to add that to my guilt.... I am telling you this because; 1) I want to be honest 2) I need to "confess" so I can move past it. I think it hit me hard that I am kicking my old, comfy and dependable friend (food) to the curb. Albeit, a dysfunctional relationship it has been, that does not mean saying good-bye is easy or painless. I guess in relation to years of eating gone by (many years ago!) things could have been much worse in regards to quantity... but I did eat at Burger King, Sonic (I don't even like fast food!), I ate ice cream (twice!), Mexican food, pizza, friggin grilled cheese sandwich at like 11 pm the other night! Last night I confessed my trespasses to my on line support group... (someone told me this is called a "food funeral" and it happens to many preop-ers in one fashion or another. Well, my 'funeral' went on for days! ha!) And today I confess to you. As of this morning I am back on track and think (hope!) I got a handle on this once again. I also called my therapist who has been helping me work thru some of my food/head issues and told her I needed to come see her (she thought I would need/want to before surgery, and yup, she was right!). So, the short of it. I am ok now. I plan on continuing to be ok. And I've no doubt there will be many times over the coming years the dang food monster is going to try and weasel his way back into my good graces, but with determination.... (the determination I had when I kicked out my 1st husband! LOL!) I am going to stand my ground. Thank you for listening... I am back on track now! My surgery is scheduled for July 24th.... I am THRILLED and am going to rock this thing :) I figure this is just part of the process of healing from a dysfunctional relationship :) -- Rebecca Robinson Psychology Major "Don't complain; Just work harder!" ~Randy Pausch (end email) ************************************************************************ I feel sooooo much better today! Yeah, the tears are still here.. but so is the smile :)
