food for the body - peace for the soul
funny rainy day.........lost power for several hours..........good time to pray and nap under warm blankets.
it's a gray day.......but the sound of the rain cheers me. i was gonna nuke some soup, but then i changed my mind.
i took a steak out of the freezer (a day or two ago) and forgot all about it. i have it marinating for a few minutes in some dressing & pepper........got a potato in the microwave. and a few glorious brussel sprouts waiting their turn.
i don't feel like making this meal........i am achy and sore and tired. but i turned the lights on in the kitchen to lighten the mood around here and pulled out my cast iron griddle. it's a small but heavy pan that turns just about any piece of meat into a restaurant experience........i am not a chef, so these little tips garnered from the internet have really helped me be braver - try more recipes and so on living alone.
the potato will go from the microwave into foil and then hang out in the oven on the bottom shelf while the steak broils. another trick i learned for how to make potatoes really fluffy on the inside..........maybe if i eat some good protein rich steak and replenish the potassium via the potato and the other good vitamins via the sprouts i will feel like more of a person.
the chores left me feeling all bent out of shape.......but for this one meal, there will be lovely food to enjoy.........feel really blessed to have God nudging me along to make this meal a reality. i'm doing this primarily via my rolling chair........rolling from here to there and there to here. standing is a little beyond me at the moment. THANK GOD FOR ROLLING PADDED CHAIRS!!!!!!!!
i did watch "White Christmas"..........half last night and half at dawn........me still likey that movie. hugs. .....look i know what we eat is not the end all and be all.......but i've been kind of down and this feels like i'm a big luxurious treat...........if all goes goes well i may even have a bit of eggnog & a white chocolate truffle for dessert..................................feels very holidayish and Christmasy.........the rain is coming down hard now.
p.s. ok, yes i was very sad about missing church today, i planned to go one way or the other....... without power i couldn't get out of the house........not enough strength to disengage the thingy and lift up the double garage door by myself..........i wanted to go for the annual Christmas service -----
God and I had a chat about it, helped me with a big dose of naptime.........and then when i woke he sent a tiny flock of wee birds a few minutes ago to remind me how important every one and everything is..........from the tiniest sparrow to the grandest of the grand and i feel a lightness back in my heart. it's alright to be here, to be still and quiet and do what God wants me to right HERE in THIS PLACE...........there's no place like home. xoxoxo
ah geez............i thought i turned the broiler on, but sigh, no i didn't..........rats. give me a good ten minutes to reset the clocks, the phone........focus on being glad i have POWER so i get to do these little chores. foggy brain is trying so hard........gotta give credit where credit is due..........our brains even as taxed as they are by the extremities of fatigue, pain & inflammation still help us along........pretty incredible huh!

I am imagining I\'m smelling your broiling steak right now. Yum! I\'m glad you were able to roll around and treat yourself to a special Sunday dinner. And you got to marinate the steak a little longer than you expected by forgetting to turn the broiler on right away :-). I know how you feel about missing church - I haven\'t been to church since June and won\'t be able to go for the holiday. God is with us, but it can be hard to be separated from His people due to illness. Love \"White Christmas\" by the way - I\'ll be watching in tomorrow - love when Danny Kaye pretends to break his ankle so the general can\'t watch his favorite tv show.
Nice to see you cooking for yourself and sounding as though you will have an okay Christmas inspite of having to miss Church today. There is just something so special about small birds in the wild, I\'m so glad they raise your spirits as they do mine. We are at the tail end of an ice storm, and the little tree on my front lawn is beautifully etched in ice. Tens of thousands are without power & heat; many auditoriums are being opened as \'warming centers\', so glad to hear that, as it can create a sense of community so seldom experienced otherwise!!! Bless you \"Little Sparrow\", and have a wonderful Christmas however you spend it .
Resetting the phone and other things after a power outage can be a chore. My phone and clocks always have to be reset.
It is frustrating when you can\'t do what you want like go to church due to the garage doors. Being sad napping and then making lemonade from lemons is an art you do well.
So nice to hear about your day. A steak sounds marvelous...mmmmm. I will have to cook one myself soon.
So glad u had time with God today. I\'m so thankful for his strength. I\'m really having to lean on it myself today. Take care of yourself Serce. So glad u got a nap... Taking myself to bed early tonight. Xo
Hi sweetie! Glad you were able to make yourself a good meal today. Don\'t ya just hate it when the electric goes out? It reminds us of what we sometimes take for granted.
Had a ball with Kennedy today making cookies. She was Grandma\'s girl today. My dear d-I-L thanked me so much for offering to have K come over today. It helped her & Michael get all the shopping done & wrapped. When they came to get K we ordered pizza & had good family time together. I am feeling so blessed. Love you dear friend. Praying for you.
