Fired up on ignorant people
This morning I'm letting my irritation regarding racist people get on my nerves. I'm not really sure racism is the correct word to use. I'm 1/2 Spanish. Guatemalan. My dad's side. My mom's side is the European melting pot. Mostly Italian I'm told. Probably all Italian. Anyway.. I see shit all the time on face book about immigration. I agree illegal immigration is an issue and illegals shouldn't be treated better than our vets. Or get benefits that legal American's can't get. I understand that. But what gets me is the down right hatefulness of some of these posts. Like Hispanics, Asians what have you haven't contributed their fair share to America and have a right to the benefits. These people do 100 % of the work that American's don't want to do, are too lazy to do, or just don't give a shit enough to do. They do it for cheap, they do it well, and they do it until it's done. So why am I so irritated today. One of our friends that often goes on rants about many things. Immigration being one of them. I usually ignore him.
My husband post a pic of his nursing class. Looks like 50 women and 1 man. Most women look white. There are a few brown people. By brown I mean maybe 1 Hispanic or asian the other couple are black. The comments to this photo are several. Digs about being the only male, digs about being old, some congrats... but then this one from our friend back in the army days "watch out for those bean counters" This was in a response of my husband saying he wanted to work at the VA when he was finished. What the hell is that comment supposed to mean? I want to go on a tirate to this person. I ask him if it is supposed to be a dig on Hispanics. Because if it is they make up 7% of nurses in America. Also you have to be legal to get your nursing license I'm pretty sure. If not you should.

Hello Magpie2. Just read through your post. There\'s never any excuse for racism or for tolerating it from others. I\'m just wondering whether the bean counter comment is an actual racial slur. We use that term in the UK to describe the people working in the background that control the wealth and fiances of institutes etc.
\\for example I might say \"the NHS is run by bean counters and they don\'t care about people just the figures\". It may have a different meaning in the U.S. If so ignore me lol :)
That could be... good thing I didn\'t say anything ignorant back to him. I do hear bean counter all the time though as a reference to spanish people picking the coffee beans. It would totally be something Mike would say. But maybe in this instance he meant as you say. I doubt he is that intelligent though. LOL.

Congratulations to your husband. We need wonderful nurses all over the states. There was a shortage a few years ago, hope that has been filled by people like your husband. There is a gorgeous hospital in Bridgeport, WV that was built and finished around 2012. Another reason my kids wish they were back in Bridgeport!
