Few Hours

Well tomorrow morning...5:30 way to early...but the hospital is only 7 min from my house..glad for that....will be heading into the sterile room of the all while hospital to prepare for my back surgery...hoping and praying that the pain will be over when the surgery is done....and hoping all goes well during surgery and just don't like the being put to sleep....so thanks to you all each for your love, concern, prayers....and what ever for me you do....what a wonderful group....to know so many people care...
Went to take care of my mom's paper works for her medicaid...and close the bank account now to just get the paperword to the bank for them to mail the direct deposit to mom's Social Sec check ...hopefully no one else will decide to make a change in her direct deposit...can't pay her bills if the check don't go in the right bank account..
Went to see her yesterday...took her some soap she said she needed....Yikes, what has she does with all the bottles of shampoo and stuff we took....she has none in her room..she acts like she is the darling princess of the place...all the men love her and she is loving that...well I guess if we get old we might a well enjoy the attention....
She got mad at me...started saying I was keeping her money...i asked her what money..the nursing home only allows you 40.00 a month...they get the rest...why I don't know...and now she is already going to the beauty shop to get a perm...went back to get her hair styled...and she wants more money...so i gave her more money...but she will just end up giving it away...
The administrator said she is spending money where she shouldn't...but she also said the her memory is just so much worse than it was the first time she was there last year...which I think it seems worse too....she wants to argue with me...even let out a bad word...then found out that she gave out of the 40.00 for the month the people who come to hold church there at the nursing home must take up money for donation and she gave 20.00.  I told her she can't give that much..due to the amount she is allowed.  that at the most is a dollar a week...I don't think they should be allowed to take up money from the elderly in nursing homes...gezzz....I am a Christian but I sure feel some take advantage of the elderly...Will have a talk with them after the surgery...
Hate the being put to sleep for surgery...but hoping I can walk again without the pain being so bad....
Well, friends, will talk all the payers you offer up for me during the surgery and recovery and that the surgery will be successful...Love to you all too...Sandi

I am praying for you. I hope all goes well with surgery.
I agree, the church group should not take money from people in homes. They don\'t know who has the cognitive ability to make those decisions. I would hope the administrator would bring it up with them. They may need to say \"we don\'t accept donations - we are here for you\".
As for the argumentativeness; I am afraid it is not uncommon when people are losing their memories. It is difficult when you are trying so hard to help your mom and she seems not to be appreciative. Her reality is not your reality. She has gaps in her memory. It is hard but try not to argue. If she says you are taking her money, I would just say it is in the bank and try to change the subject - which may or may not work. I have worked with people with Dementia, mainly Alzheimer\'s for many years - and taught courses. There is no sure fire answer, as what works one day doesn\'t the next. But the one thing I say for sure is don\'t argue.
Enough of that (I have a passion for working with people with Dementia so I tend to go on and on).
I will be thinking of you and praying for a quick recovery.
Hugs,
Marlene

Good luck tomorrow - fingers crossed for you!
Sorry to hear your mom is being taken advantage of by people who should know better - I work with the elderly and it can be such a difficult, frustrating time - this slow demise - for everyone concerned. It\'s great that she has an advocate in you.
Take care and hope all goes smoothly ~ Joanna
