Feral cats
There's a band of feral 'mouser' cats who live outside the barn and chicken coop. We feed them food scraps but I bought a bag of food for them for Christmas as it is bitter cold here. Very happy I did that. They are eating with gusto as I write this!

our agricultural region is suffering a rodent over-population. they are chewing out vehicle wires, etc, so not even the commuters can ignore them. we've been experimenting with reestablishing barn cat populations with feral cats such as the ones you describe here. it has not been going well. the imported feral cats keep waiting for the charity soup kitchen to open and don't seem able to recognize mice as a food source.
my cat lady sisters get offended when i call their suburban handouts, "a charity soup kitchen." they keep their "feral" cats well fed.
If you put out straw for them it helps to keep them warm when they want to sleep..... It's nice that you bought them food Mark.... xo
Thanks you guys!!
Welcome home! So kind of you to feed the cats.
Thanks Susan!
