Feeling Overwhelmed by Life

It's been awhile since I wrote. It has been hard the last few years dealing with my Husband's dementia.  He is angry almost all the time now and yells at me which is very triggering. I was born the year of the dragon, suppose to be a good year for me but not so far. My husband decided to climb up on the roof during Christmas despite me telling him not to.  I thought he was watching TV. He fell. broke all the ribs on his left side, shattered his shoulder and rotator cuff and brain bleed. I spent a month with him in the hospital. Then he had to have a full shoulder replacement or lose the use of his left arm.  The whole time he was in the hospital he kept calling me at all hours of the night hallucinating about being in a black hole.

His has healed and has limited use of his left arm. All he wants to do at this stage is eat, sleep and watch TV. My plumbing went haywire and cost 65K to replace. Things are not the same around here. I have to do everything by myself and often am feeling completely helpless and overwhelmed. I am on so many meds and still feel down.  I am receiving therapy every week now to help relieve some of my C-PTSD symptoms, I isolate in my office when I am not doing household chores. It's really the only place I can find peace and feel safe. I am trying my best to care for him but am not sure how long I will be able to  to keep up with the pace of things.  I am feeling drained, sad and overwhelmed.

Hi Secouya and welcome back. It's been a while since I've last heard from you. I am sorry to hear about your husband's injuries, and how caring for him is causing you fatigue, distress and depression. I know how you feel, as I cared for my father in his last days. Can you ask social security, the government, charitable organisations to send you carers (free or subsidised) to help you to care for your husband? Otherwise, it would be too overwhelming to care for a sick person whilst caring for yourself as well.

Thats a good idea Andromeda. I keep asking Kaiser for a social worker. I will have to check into these resources.
