Feeling helpless

Well, yesterday was a bad day for me but even worse for people in Colorado Springs.  Colorado Springs is a city just north of where I live.  It is about 45 miles away.  The wind shifted yesterday afternoon and now several homes have burned.  The city has been evacuated west of Interstate 25.  That is a huge area.  The Air Force Academy had to evacuate as well.  I have a cousin who lives in the evacuation area.  I am not sure if her home was burned or if she is just moved out in case.  I have not heard from her or about her.  I pray for her safety.  We are expecting more winds this afternoon and possible thunderstorms.  While people think the rain would be a good thing, there is now a danger of flash flooding due to the burning of all the vegetation.   Sometimes I wonder if the Mayans are right... We have seen such crazy things happening this year and there is such devastation.
My health is nothing compared to what all the displaced families are going thru.  However, I woke up in severe pain this morning.  I had to get up and take my gabapentin.  My right leg and right arm are very weak.  I have limited use of my right arm and my hand is almost useless.  My leg just drags.  I have muscle spasms all thru my leg and they hurt!  The pain is not muscle pain but I think must be nerve pain.  I have electric shocks go thru my leg and my big toe.  It is painful and crazy.
I wanted to clean my house up today for my sister and her family.  They are in a pre evacuation zone for the fires and are ready to evacuate when they have to.  I wanted to be able to wash bedding and vacuum...I don't think it's gonna happen.
I have counseling today and group therapy.  I am actually thankful for that as I am feeling very depressed.  I think all the devastation has taken its toll on me as well as my health.  It is hard to be anything but depressed when I feel this way and there is a major fire just to my north.  Nothing on TV but information about the fire. All programming is local news stations reporting on the fire and what people need to do...I can't stop watching.  it is like 9/11...I know I couldn't watch anything on TV except the news of the twin towers and the planes going down.

Hope your Sis and her family are safe. I know this stress is adding to your symptoms. Try not to watch too much of the news coverage if you can help it. It will only add to the stress. Get as much rest as you can. I\'m sure if family needs to crash at your house, they will be happy to wash bedding or clean up just to have a safe place to stay.

Gentle hugs to everyone there, Linda

I do hope your sister and family are safe. I know you are worried about your family in that area. These fires are just horrible! Try not to worry too much. I know it is easier said than done. This stress could be causing these flares. I agree with Linda. Your family will be happy to have a safe place to stay at. Try to rest. My prayers are with you and the people that are dealing with these fires. May God bless you all!
