Evening Chat......
Hi!
This may make you shake your head at me, but here goes....I went to pch.com and entered their sweepstakes online to win "$5,000 a week for beyond life".......yup, this sweepstakes win is enjoyed by you AND THEN passed on/inherited by family for decades to come.
Even after taxes............how cool is that? OK sure, so I only have a 1 in 1, 225,000.00 or was it 1 in 1,225,000,000.00? Dunno, me no care..........what the hey? They draw the winner this February.
Onto other random things, during the holidays 8 year old Aaron asked me how much my house weighs. I said with or without the furnishings? He said "HUH?"........I was trying to stall...........obviously. Kids ask the greatest random questions. To my knowledge no one has ever quizzed me on the weight of my domicile. I suppose there is probably some website that will help you figure that out........no clue. I like being around the minds of bright inquisitive children. So whaddya think YOUR home weighs???????? LOL.
I am listening to a Harry Potter movie in the background.......sometimes I sorta wish a little bit that I had a big screen TV.........that I could reduce down to normal after the special effect flick is over. My living room isn't big enough for some monster screen..........but I can't lie, when I watched Avatar at my son's home I thought how cool is this? All the joy of going to the movies with the added comfort of home and the pause button.
Do you remember back in the day when theaters used to include patron intermissions so you could stretch your legs and face the temptation of snacks and popcorn? ......I do.
The Paramount Theatre was so beautiful......at that time in my life as a grade schooler it was the most elegant, glamorous place I had ever seen. The church has stained glass windows to be sure........but the Paramount had deep crimson & gold carpets, elegant sconces, velvet ropes.......and velvet drapes that opened just before the movie started...........the cartoons and short newsreels before the main feature.......we dressed up in our Sunday best to go.......we were enthralled. The staircase going up to the balcony was wide......curved.....a glorious sweeping climb......it made everyone feel like a movie star..........I wanted to slide down that bannister with every fiber of my being. I did not however wish to face my father's LOOK. He had the LOOK down. It made me quake in my young shoes.......I did not want to disappoint or risk his wrath.
He would give me the LOOK and then the LECTURE. It was pretty hard to take. I felt like the dust on the dirt on the bottom of a peanut. Small........
I had this idea today.............wonder what ya'll think. I thought it would be cool to take a pretty bottle w/a cork or lid and then fill it with things from my yard.......Georgia dirt, acorns, crushed rose petals and leaves.......little pebbles and so on. Put a pretty label on it.....something like "Momma's Home."
It could be made up specific to what anyone would like.........from cinnamon to sand. It could be a nifty way to remember loved ones........who are far away or those who have gone on to the next life.
Yup, so by now I was thinking that this could be a sweet item that would be nice for any close relationship.............sentimental, not too big.......maybe there could be something small and unbreakable for soldiers.........to have a bit of home with them...........don't know. I'm in a soft mush mode lately........sentimental and that is what hit me today. Mason jars, small milk bottles, ginger jars.......simple with a label reflective of a special time like childhood or falling in love .......a special memories gift.
I'm off to watch the rest of the movie now. Gentle hugs.........I slept most of the day.........oh, I got a call from an old work pal today, my friend Chris. Christine is such a darling...........she is in her 80's and still working......she said she's thinking about retiring maybe.............she always calls me "TEX" and I always call her "PEACHES". She is a southern darling......old school.........a very refined lady and then she will tell you the most outrageous story or funny joke (not dirty, but with great colors and timing.....to make you collapse at her outrageous sense of humor....... behind that cool prim exterior lies a great comedienne). She doesn't share that side of herself with everyone........to most she is the epitome of lady like gentility.......so when she lets you in to enjoy her fiercely funny sense of humor you really fall in love with her......she's razor sharp and hi-larious. I really enjoyed catching up with her today.
Nite Nite............now c'mere and gimme a hug!

What\'s a ginger jar?
Here\'s a site where you might be able to find out how much your house weighs: http://www.wolframalpha.com/
Which Harry Potter movie were you watching? I think my favorite is Goblet of Fire.
Sleep well! hug hug
So glad that you are on DS, you make me smile, laugh out loud and for that I am grateful to you. Keep on writing my dear, you have found your home here. Much love and gratitude, Connie
Jeepers, I have no clue how much my house weighs...and surely, no one has ever asked me! Hmmmmmmmmmm, the inquisitive minds of kids! Amazing, innit?
I love your idea about the jars and filling them with special parts of \"home\"...specially nice for someone who is away from home, like a soldier...little pieces of this and that...even the dirt!! Yep, it\'s part of their lives memory and how nice to take that jar and set it somehwhere where you could see it! It would always be a comfort to your heart and put a smile on your face! LOVE it!
Whelp, I\'m here at the crack of dawn, and need to go back to bed!! Sure was nice to read this in the early a.m. You\'re the first person today, to put a smile on ma face!!
My DH got us a BIG TV over a year ago and, well, I just LOVE it! If you like TV, watching movies, etc. then it is worth every single penny! Do it for yourself! Yes, it\'s BIG in our L/Room but who cares, huh? We usually try to have a Saturday Night Movie Night and turn off the lights, put the surround sound on and it\'s a theatre (even with popcorn)! Last night we watched \'The Hunger Games\'...Avatar is one of my favs too and awesome on the B/S (big screen). Really. Get one.
Love your bottle idea, LOVE it..... Check out my journal today with another creative idea for you for 2013!
Are you sure your co-worker isn\'t your alterego, you sound like two peas in a pod......................
.............oh, and ..........here\'s your hugxoxox
entering the \"beyond life\" sweepstakes too.. LOL
We have a big screen TV--it\'s worth it. But sometimes when I can\'t sleep I watch the small one in the 2nd bedroom.. flat screen and HD but cozier :)
I remember my first nighttime movie.. my mom took me to a bigger town where \"Gone with the Wind\" was playing.. I was overwhelmed.. the curtain, the staircase, those plush velvety seats. If angels with trumpets appeared to welcome us, I wouldn\'t have been surprised!
I went to see my aunt Pat before Xmas, she lives a couple of hours away. She will be 82 and except for a little memory loss, she\'s still sharp and funny and makes me happy when I talk to her. We had done a little shopping and were waiting to pull out, when a rather heavy set woman walked past, wearing a short coat and leggings. My aunt said dryly to me \"not a great look,darlin\', she needs to be taller, thinner and younger to pull that off!\" It just cracked me up, she didn\'t say it in a mean spirited way, just truthful! My aunt is southern, also, very ladylike but has a ribald streak, sounds like your friend Christine :)
Resting up, I have to go to my sister\'s New Years Eve party or she\'ll stop speaking to me *sigh* Have a lovely Sunday, Ruthie!
